Technical Lead / Cloud Application Architect

PSI is seeking a Cloud Application Architect to support our client at Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). The successful candidate will support the identification of best practice approaches and resources for achieving the VA Office of Information and Technology (OIT) strategic objectives. The Cloud Engineer/Architect will support the modernization of VA through the use of information technology (IT) industry trends and innovations, enterprise architectural standards, and VA guiding principles to define reusable solutions to reoccurring technical problems.

This is a full-time position located in Washington, DC (100% remote). Veterans are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate must be able to obtain a Public Trust.

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities:

• Research, design, analyze, and configure Cloud-based Enterprise-wide systems and application software.
• Support the planning of system deployment using Infrastructure as Code to meet required software compliance standards.
• Evaluate interfaces between hardware and software, operational requirements, and characteristics of the overall system.
• Leverage expertise in the use of Cloud architectures and solutions to support software development in a DevOps environment.
• Leverage complete comprehension and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the field and apply general knowledge of other related disciplines.
• Provide technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. Determine and provide analysis for approaches to solutions.
• Assists in developing design patterns following the collaborative, crowd sourcing model
• Conducts technical research, and documentation of routine hosting/configuration tools and methodologies
• Communicates effectively across internal and external organizations
• Develops templates, and assists others with Azure/AWS, Azure/AWS Resource Management templates, Virtual Networks, Storage, and Virtual Machines
• Develops, designs, and implements solutions in Azure/AWS cloud environments
• Provides Azure/AWS cloud operations and deployment guidance and best practices
• Creates Standard Operating Procedures and other system design documents

Minimum Requirements:

• B.S. degree in Engineering or Physical Science or other related discipline or 8 yrs. equivalent work experience
• 15 years of IT experience in infrastructure, applications, networks, or cloud
• 3 years of experience in a Cloud engineering role
• Bring a well-rounded and highly knowledgeable technical band background in Development and cloud implementation.
• Experience with technologies, methodologies, and innovations, such as Agile DevOps, Cloud Infrastructure etc.
• Knowledge of modern web applications and underlying technology stack
• Experience working with Cloud Service Providers, including Microsoft Azure/Amazon Web Services (AWS)
• Experience working with government cloud environments, including Azure Government Cloud/AWS Government Cloud
• Experience with identifying and gathering requirements to define a solution to be built and operated on Azure/AWS
• Ability to develop, design, and implement solutions in Azure/AWS cloud environments
• Experience with multiple operating systems, including Linux, Windows, and UNIX
• Experience with Azure/AWS, Azure/AWS Resource Management templates, Virtual Networks, Storage, and Virtual Machines
• Experience with providing Azure/AWS operations and deployment guidance and best practices
• Knowledge of web services environments, languages, and formats, including RESTful APIs, HTML, JavaScript, XML, KML, SOAP, and JSON
• Ability to work in a collaborative manner with government and industry partners to develop solutions in cloud environments
• Agile development, cloud systems, or ITIL related certifications
• Azure/AWS related certifications
• Ability to adapt well to a changing and dynamic client environment and function independently
• Ability to work overtime required on occasion

Preferred Requirements:

• Agile Development, Cloud systems, or ITIL related Certifications
• Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure-related Certifications
• Experience developing using extensible web authoring tools
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Excellent interpersonal relationship skill
• Experience with solution development at the Department of Veterans Affairs a plus
• Understanding of cloud security requirements, including FISMA, FEDRAMP, Impact Level, NIST, etc. a plus
