Technical Lead, Mobile App

As a Technical Lead for Kotlin Multiplatform Mobile (KMM) Development at Forbes, you will play a pivotal role in building our innovative mobile app. You'll be responsible for the development and expansion of the Android version while ensuring seamless integration and functionality with its iOS counterpart.

What You'll Do: 

• Development Leadership: Drive the architectural decisions, design, and development of the Android app using KMM while ensuring performance, quality, and responsiveness of the application.
• KMM Library Management: Oversee and expand the shared KMM library to ensure a smooth integration between our iOS and Android apps.
• UI Design and Implementation: Utilize JetBrains Jetpack Compose to craft intuitive, dynamic, and user-friendly interfaces for the Android version of the application.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with our iOS developer, offering guidance and support when needed. Facilitate effective collaboration between the iOS and product, engineering and design teams to ensure unified app experience.
• Product Management Collaboration: Partner with the Product Manager to define and refine product roadmaps. Convert product strategies into technical initiatives, epics, and features to drive our mobile app forward.
• Mentoring & Management: Manage and mentor, the iOS developer, fostering an environment of continuous learning and improvement.
• Reporting: Provide regular updates, insights, and recommendations to the Director of Software Engineering.
• Assist implementing Agile Practices: Work with the team and Forbes engineering to follow and establish best practices including TDD, continuous integration, pairing, and infrastructure automation, etc.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience in Android app development with a deep understanding of Kotlin and JetBrains Jetpack Compose for UI.
• Strong experience in KMM development and its integration in mobile applications.
• Familiarity with iOS app development, preferably with SwiftUI.
• Demonstrated experience in leading technical teams and projects.
• Strong collaboration skills, with a track record of working effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and act tactically.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Able to break down stakeholders’ request into manageable pieces of work.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have: 

• 8+ years of software development experience.
• Experience thriving in a fast, agile and multi-functional team environment.
• Experience in developing public facing mobile software applications.
• You demonstrate excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills and are passionate about mobile app development.
• You hold a bachelor’s degree in computer science or computer engineering or equivalent work experience.
• You have demonstrated experience building new mobile application experiences for Android platform using best practices.
• You have enough experience with iOS development to provide occasional guidance and recommendations.
• You’re well-versed in two or more languages (Kotlin, Python, Go, Java, JavaScript) and are comfortable with the latest Object-Oriented technology.
• Experience leading software development teams using Agile, Lean and/or Continuous Delivery approaches such as TDD, continuous integration, pairing, and infrastructure automation.
• Strong writing and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to create and adapt to workflows to efficiently produce measurable results.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Experience with CI/CD using tools like AWS, Argo, and Jenkins.
• Familiarity with Firebase, GitHub, and GitHub Actions.
• Experience setting up, monitoring and reporting with Firebase Crashlytics.
• Experience with 3rd party vendors for notifications.
• Knowledge of Google Cloud Platform.

The annual base salary range for this role is $160,000 - $165,000
