Our Business Group is a leader in wireless mobility networks and associated services. With more than 3.500 patent families essential for 5G we have a strong 5G portfolio and are a front runner in open and virtualized radio access networks (O-RAN and vRAN). This job is in our Local Delivery Organization (LDO) for the Americas which is the delivery arm for the Mobile Networks Business Group. The LDO consists of a variety of specialists including Network Designers, Network Performance and Optimization, Project Managers, and Technical Managers to name a few. The Technical Manager (TM) The Technical Manager is responsible for management of all the technical management activities defined in Customer contract in terms of quality, risk and time from delivery approach preparation through deployment, customer acceptance and care phase. Acts as primary technical interface and first technical escalation point within the Customer project.

What you will learn and contribute to

The RAN Technical Manager will lead and coordinate testing in the customer lab and the field of all software releases to deployment of the release across the entire commercial network. The job responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • RAN Technical Management - plan and technical management of RAN (Femto Gateway, Residential SoHo, Enterprise SmartNode) testing in Redmond and First Field Application (FFA) to enable introduction into AT&T's network. Upcoming releases introduce 5G into the Smart Node in both the standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) configurations.
  • EMS Technical Management - plan and technical management testing of Element Management Systems (EMS) in Redmond and FFA to enable introduction into AT&T's network. cOAM is a cloud-based EMS that will replace the SAM & HDM (legacy bare-metal products).
  • E2E Technical Lead - Key contact for AT&T and Nokia to drive the technical aspect of the project.
  • Lab Designer - coordinate with team members to provide detailed lab connectivity drawings (EMS & RAN), work lab IP routing design with AT&T, populate a Customer Questionnaire for each network element, create integration plan for new femto and EMS hardware.
  • Manage the ability to create KPI reports and the day-to-day reporting of KPIs to AT&T during FFAs.
  • Manage the creation and delivery of Gold Standard data spreadsheets to AT&T. Coordinate the testing data changes with AT&T and the update of the GPT, GPL, and GS documents. For cOAM, manage the transition from the XML-based legacy design to a JSON-based metadata design of the AP data.
  • Manage all related Femto network software release introduction items necessary for lab and FFA exits. Examples are information to AT&T's Network Management System designers, Gold Standards and GPT, GPL, MOP creation, and a site workbook for new hardware deliveries.
  • Support Nokia Program Managers to prepare lab and FFA exit packages

Specific tasks will include:

  • Nokia contact for AT&T CTO to plan and execute Redmond and FFA test programs for the femto product line.
  • First level of escalation for all technical matter in Femto Program.
  • Run periodic coordination calls between AT&T & Nokia engineers to lead the team through project execution via efficient steps for timely project completions
  • Represent the AT&T project to R&D and actively discuss project status and issues at frequent internal calls.
  • Redmond lab design & as relevant lab planning within Nokia and coordination with R&D.
  • KPI leadership: maintain and evolve internal KPI tool (Excel VB macros)
  • Data leadership: Global Parameter List (GPL), Global Parameter Template (GPT), Gold Standard (GS)
    • lead the project through the transition to the new meta data-based formats to provide to AT&T the equivalent of the legacy GPL, GPT, and GS. Might need to direct the creation of new tools to manage data deliveries to AT&T.
  • Work with Nokia CARE & program management to clarify AT&T hot issues and resolution for completion of program milestones

Your skills and experience

This job requires 5+ years' experience in the wireless industry, a master's level engineering degree or equivalent, and excellent written and verbal communications skills. Further essential nowledge and skills include:

  • Constructive communication skills with AT&T engineers to work through day-to-day issues and jointly manage testing projects to timely completions.
  • Understanding of Nokia Cloud implementation and orchestration of Femto RAN & OAM applications. Next project will replace SAM & HDM (bare metal EMS) with cFCM & cHDM (cloud applications)
  • Expertise at RAN technology - next project adds 5G SA and NSA to the SmartNode
  • High level system knowledge of the E2E provisioning network for femto cells
  • Knowledge of IP technology is a big plus.
  • Expert understanding of Nokia CREATE & PROJECT processes during software life cycle
