Job Description
(1) Support technical/commercial supplier due diligence processes, competitive RFPs, negotiations, & contract execution for capital equipment (BESS, Inverters, and Transformers);
(2) Explore new technologies, lead evaluation, & benchmarking of new products to determine economic value & potential impacts if implemented;
(3) Perform market analyses, define cost structures, develop should-cost models, forecast industry trends & risks, & leverage expertise to ensure working with & procuring from best-in-class suppliers to meet cost targets;
(4) Understand key suppliers' organizational structure, financial health, negotiated Terms & Conditions, deal structure, exposure/risk, culture, & service capabilities;
(5) Support tax equity & debt financing due diligence;
(6) Support design optimization for early-stage greenfield projects (equipment sizing, modeling, cost estimates, & project schedules);
(7) Develop consensus on optimal system design, construction, & operational approaches;
(8) Build strategic relationships with equipment & services suppliers & perform as key point of contact;
(9) Maintain feedback loop with operations & development/construction teams to ensure issues are documented & considered for future MSAs & projects;
(10) Conduct manufacturing facility & construction site visits to ensure proper QAQC measures are followed on procured equipment;
(11) Attend industry events. 20% domestic travel required.
Education/Experience Requirements
Master’s Degree in Solar Energy Engineering & Commercialization with renewable energy specialization or a related field.
Functional knowledge in the following: System design optimization work on utility-scale PV/BESS power plant facilities equal to or greater than 200MW/MWh of capacity;
Supply chain management and procurement engineering experience in utility-scale solar and/or BESS;
Creating scope sheets, techno-commercial analysis, and design calculations in Excel and PowerPoint;
Evaluating and vetting inverters (PV and BESS), Medium Voltage (MV) Transformers, and Power Transformers;
Reviewing PV/BESS electrical drawings and determining equipment and system capacity ratings, electrical block sizing, site DC/AC ratios, equipment BOQ, Ground Coverage Ratio (GCR), module string sizing, efficiency, and bin classes;
Inverter, transformer, and capacitor bank sizing for utility-scale PV/BESS projects based on system losses and active and reactive power requirements at the point of interconnect;
Evaluating supplier proposals (pricing, lead times, technology, converting costs into energy unit-based pricing (i.e., $/kWh, $/W)) and negotiating key terms and conditions like Warranty, Performance Tests, Liquidated damages, Delivery and Cancellation schedules;
Reviewing key powerplant agreements such as PPA’s, LGIAs, and EPC contracts for utility-scale PV/BESS plants greater than 150MW capacity;
Working with independent engineering consultants for PV/BESS equipment technical due diligence, testing, and benchmarking;
PV system design- creating layouts in AutoCAD, preparing single line diagrams, and energy modeling using PVsyst.
