Labcorp is actively searching for a intern to serve as a Technical Product Owner Intern within our Corporate IT to learn leadership skills, gain experience around the software development lifecycle to help develop business solutions for innovative Clinical Decision Support in the healthcare industry.

The Technical Product Owner role will guide development teams within Labcorp and contribute to creating and implementing enterprise standards for web service platforms for Clinical Decision Support and embedded solutions in electronic medical record applications. The intern will be challenged with guiding SCRUM teams developing cutting-edge technologies, facilitating brainstorming, design, and development sessions between expert users (clinicians, medical experts, laboratorians, and customers), developers, and QA engineers. As part of a clinical development team, you will be engaged and challenged with the design process and analysis enabling newly envisioned clinician workflows revolutionizing the healthcare industry worldwide. You will work closely with the SCRUM team, Product Managers, and Business Relationship Managers to communicate priorities, structure the Agile development process, and ensure that tasks and solutions are coming together across all hardware, network, cloud, system, and software layers to ensure functional completeness of our deliverables.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead one or more SCRUM teams
  • Facilitate meetings and negotiations throughout all SDLC phases
  • Coordinate with Project Managers the release and solution management
  • Communicate to the team and leadership progress, risks, and mitigations
  • Coordinate and oversee all agreed upon Agile ceremonies and artifacts
  • Engage in the product design and analysis of technical requirements
  • Oversee product documentation and verify the functional completeness of committed deliverables
  • Evangelize Agile development practices
  • Emphasize and focus on collaboration with management, users, and developers
  • Conducts complex impact analysis
  • Pushes the envelope with innovative and creative thinking

Internship Assignment Summary

Your Summer schedule is full time, 40 hours per week:

  • May - Take Off: Program Kick-Off and the Start of the Summer!
  • June - Teamwork and Discovery: Work with your assigned team and fellow Interns on projects while also attending workshops, panels, and tours.
  • July - Networking and Public Speaking: Present to Senior Leadership, work with team members on innovative new projects, and expand your career network.
  • August - Takeaways: Provide insight for your future career, and create lasting career networks.

Requirements:

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of web service platforms and related technologies.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) applications and clinical decision support systems.
  • Basic knowledge of software development methodologies, particularly Agile and Scrum.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Strong communication skills to facilitate brainstorming, design, and development sessions among cross-functional teams including clinicians, developers, and QA engineers.
  • Ability to effectively communicate priorities and Agile processes with Product Managers, Business Relationship Managers, and SCRUM teams.

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills

  • Capability to engage in the design process and analyze clinician workflows for potential improvements and optimizations.
  • Aptitude for problem-solving, identifying issues, and proposing solutions in the development process.

Teamwork and Adaptability

  • Ability to work closely with SCRUM teams, Product Managers, and Business Relationship Managers to ensure functional completeness of deliverables.
  • Willingness to adapt to the dynamic and fast-paced nature of the healthcare technology industry.

Project Management

  • Basic understanding of project management principles and practices to organize and structure Agile development processes effectively.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities concurrently.

Customer-Centric Approach

  • Desire to understand and meet the needs of expert users, including clinicians, medical experts, and customers, and align product development accordingly.

Learning Orientation

  • Eagerness to learn and continuously improve technical and domain-specific knowledge to contribute effectively to the team and projects.

  • Ability to ensure that tasks and solutions come together seamlessly across various hardware, network, cloud, system, and software layers.

Education and Experience

  • Pursuing or recently completed a relevant degree in computer science, information technology, software engineering, or a related field.
  • Prior coursework or experience in healthcare technology or related domains would be beneficial.

Professionalism

  • Demonstrated professionalism, punctuality, and ability to work in a corporate environment.

Location: Durham, NC

Pay: $20.00 / hour
