The role of the Program Management Team is to shape and accelerate the delivery of GDM’s highest priorities. We do this through translating strategy into program plans, implementing efficient ways of working, and developing successful teams to drive end to end delivery of our GDM objectives. We provide focus for our teams through co-developing goals and priorities, continually anchoring teams back to these. We continually pursue sustainable ways to optimize our work, striving to ensure we cultivate an environment where people can be both highly collaborative and deeply creative, making responsible and groundbreaking technical progress at pace. The role

As a Technical Program Manager in the AI Safety team you will play a key role in working with internal and external partners to accelerate Google DeepMind’s generative AI goals in a safe and responsible way.

Key responsibilities:

  • Independently scope, plan, and deliver technical programs in AI Safety and alignment, working to understand and build projects to improve safety of models.
  • Partner closely with the data and evaluations teams to establish and govern our internal safety data collection efforts.
  • Apply technical knowledge to identify and execute pragmatic solutions, with a specific understanding of short and long term AI Safety risks.
  • Proactively identify and manage risks, dependencies, and changing circumstances, implementing timely solutions.
  • Provide regular progress updates on technical aspects of the program, manage expectations, and adapt strategies as needed.
  • Apply expertise in program management methodologies, tools, and relevant industry knowledge on AI Safety to drive program success.
  • Partner closely with research, engineering and product teams to ensure seamless delivery of new evaluations and data collections.
  • Partner with engineering and research teams to integrate safety considerations into the design, development, and deployment of AI systems.

About you

In order to set you up for success as a Technical Program Manager at Google DeepMind, we look for the following skills and experience:

  • You are passionate about AGI, AI Safety & proactive about learning and acquiring knowledge to enhance your domain knowledge.
  • Experience partnering with Research/Engineering leads on high impact, goal oriented, projects.
  • Delivery project management experience, enabling teams to hit hard deadlines.
  • You possess a technical understanding of LLMs and experience working in data quality and evaluations.
  • Experience in solving complex challenges, implementing scalable and sustainable solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve processes, workflows, and governance models to enhance efficiency within development teams.
  • Excellent technical understanding and communication ability, with the ability to distill sophisticated technical ideas to their essence.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on AI safety-related topics.
  • Passionate about ensuring AI is Safe & Beneficial for society.

In addition, the following would be an advantage:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Data Science + Masters in AI Ethics or Safety.
  • Knowledge of AI Safety risks, experience of working with Language Models.
  • Experience working at or with data/tech providers and designing new evaluations.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $139,000 - $213,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your targeted location during the hiring process.
