Technical Program Manager - Distributed US, Canada

We are looking for a passionate and highly driven Technical Program Manager to lead the execution of complex, cross-functional initiatives at Cockroach Labs. The initial focus of this role will be Security and Compliance, but the projects may eventually span a range of product areas and engineering teams. As such, it is important to have a strong technical background so you can get up to speed on our stack and effectively lead projects. 

As a TPM at Cockroach Labs you will have the opportunity to have a direct impact on our product and deliver value to our customers. When driving a project, you will be responsible for setting and managing OKRs (objectives and key results), roadmap planning and prioritization, identifying dependencies, mitigating risks, and communicating to key stakeholders. You will also be responsible for driving operational excellence by designing thoughtful processes to support these projects, and scaling these processes across teams as needed.

• Manage the execution of important, cross-functional initiatives for the R&D division which is composed of both engineering and product teams. While projects may originate in R&D, you will also manage relationships with Go-To-Market teams including Marketing, Revenue, and Customer Success.
• Partner with engineering teams to drive delivery against deadlines, and support these initiatives by developing technical project plans and facilitating key stakeholder and cross-functional communication.
• Leverage your technical background to minimize ambiguity, anticipate and identify risks, find a path to resolve obstacles, and negotiate difficult decisions that may arise to ensure successful delivery.

In your first 30 days, you will familiarize yourself with our tech stack, develop an understanding of the R&D division processes, and build relationships across the company. We believe that it's important for you to take this first month to become familiar with our technology and our company.

After 3 months, you'll be fully integrated into the team. You will own managing and delivering critical initiatives for our Security and Compliance teams, as well as other teams within the R&D division.

• 4+ years of Technical Program Management or Technical Project Management experience.
• Familiarity and comfort using SQL, including working with databases.
• Familiarity with project management tools, specifically the Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management).
• A deep understanding of modern technologies and how they are applied. 
• Strong verbal and written communication skills. You are able to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders and build understanding and trust.
• A collaborative nature and are an enthusiastic, amiable, and personable teammate, open to partnering with all other functions in the company.
• Strong communication skills and experience collaborating with a diverse range of people and job functions (technical and non-technical).
• Strong technical background - Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience a strong plus.

The annual anticipated base salary range for U.S. candidates for this role is USD $105,000 to $160,000, plus commission if a sales role. We set standard ranges for all U.S.-based roles based on function, level, and geographic location, benchmarked against similar stage growth companies. In order to be compliant with local legislation, as well as to provide greater transparency to candidates, we share salary ranges on all job postings regardless of desired hiring location.  Actual salaries may vary and fall outside of this range depending on factors such as a candidate’s qualifications, geographic location, skills, experience, and competencies. In addition, we are often open to a wide variety of profiles, and recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than this job description as posted. Salaries for candidates outside the U.S. will vary based on local compensation structures.
