JOB SUMMARY

The Technical Project Manager is a key member of the GILLIG team, the industries’ leading transit bus manufacturer. Using leadership and facilitation expertise, the Technical Project Manager is responsible for managing projects, resources, and interactions between the Sustaining Engineering team and other departments throughout the vehicle lifecycle. The overall objective of this position is to support the team’s efforts to provide world-class engineering support, streamline management processes, improve communication, and remove roadblocks to ensure execution is provided in a timely matter. He/she is expected to operate with minimal amount of supervision under direction of the Director of Sustaining Engineering.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Intake of project requests from other departments (Purchasing, Field Service, Production, Aftermarket Parts, and internal Engineering requests)
  • Develop resource and scheduling needs, planning for the execution of all projects
  • Ensure that requests have the necessary amount of information to allow for work to be performed
  • Compile Scopes of Work (SOWs) for internal & 3rd party teams
  • Assign available Engineering resources and maintain project back log
  • Monitor progress and workload of the team, including tracking as well as reporting status to management
  • Understand potential causes of project delay and optimize team efficiency (i.e., address bottle necks, suggest remedial actions, and offer out of the box solutions)
  • Assist in root cause identification of technical issues and potential failure modes
  • Advise management on process improvement opportunities
  • Provide technical assistance to address simple requests or initial direction for project creation
  • Offer technical recommendations to Engineers and assist in brain-storming solutions
  • Development and assistance with engineering management tools
  • Facilitate internal and cross-departmental communication
  • Resolve logistical challenges involving technical issues
  • Hands-on risk mitigation to ensure parts are available or alternate solutions can be implemented
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams and suppliers to manage impacts to scope & schedule changes
  • Assist in workload forecasting
  • Review and provide disposition on 3rd party engineering invoices
  • Accountable for cost and schedule performance of projects
  • Report health and status of Sustaining Engineering team and projects to GILLIG Leadership
  • Other duties as required
REQUIREMENTS
  • BS in Engineering or equivalent degree required
  • 3+ years Design, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering experience
  • 2+ years + of robust Project Management experience
  • Knowledge of PMBOK Guide and Standards; PMP certification preferred
  • Experience in leading scrum meetings; additional consideration for Scrum Master certification
  • Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple complex projects while maintaining timelines and deliverables
  • Experience in workforce management
  • Experience in a hybrid work environment
  • Experience working with offshore support teams
  • Strong financial acumen to understand related cost impacts and budgets
  • Able to work and communicate effectively at all levels in an organization
  • Solid analytic and decision-making abilities. Ability to influence others and move toward a common vision or goal.
  • Experience in Six Sigma, LEAN principles, and other continuous improvement methodologies are highly desired
  • Background in Automotive, Aerospace, Construction/Commercial Equipment, Defense, or Industrial sectors preferred
  • Basic understanding of troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and FMEA to help support team efforts when necessary
  • Ability to read and understand engineering documentation
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Teams preferred
ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT
  • Ability to lift to 25 lbs.
  • Working environment is primarily indoors (office and production environment), however, at times may require time spent outdoors.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk; occasionally kneel or squat.
  • May be required to work overtime based on business needs
  • Limited domestic travel

Salary: $111,434 - $139,293
