Job Description
Forensic Lab - Instrument Specialist/Technical Service Specialist
The Instrument Specialist position works independently with lab staff and the R & D Support to ensure that laboratory equipment is installed, serviced, maintained, repaired and calibrated in an effective and timely manner. Work in a fast paced production environment that provides support to the mass spectrometry department's GC/MS and LC/MSMS instruments.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance on the following equipment: Agilent GC/MS systems; Waters Acquity UPLC systems; Sciex triple quad MS/MS systems.
- Develop and maintain a system to document activity, downtime, repairs, and component replacement parts, etc. including dates and times so that actual instrument run times may be accurately calculated.
- Maintain real time instrument dash board for all instruments updated daily. Assist in the scheduling of preventative maintenance and placing work orders
- Organize work to maintain efficiency ensuring all critical tasks are completed daily.
- Diagnose and repair faults occurring in the above listed equipment.
- Troubleshoot and Identify instrument related faults based upon analytical data.
- Assist and support instrument, assay, and QC validation studies
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in chemical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology
- At least two years of laboratory experience including instrumental analysis
- Proven mechanical skills
- Strong understanding of instrumental analysis and ability to apply that understanding to the diagnosis of instrument errors
- Strong problem solving skills
- Strong communication skills; ability to relate professionally with people across the organization
- Ability to coordinate multiple complex tasks with competing priority levels
- Exceptional organizational and record keeping skills.
- Strong Excel formatting skills.
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs. and to safely carry up to 30 lbs. unaided.
- Ability to work in noisy environments.
