Position Summary
The Technical Supervisor, Genetics Operations is responsible for overseeing all clerical and ancillary duties, ensuring that case workflow is efficient and data analysis turn-around times are being managed appropriately. Managing employee schedules and training, as well, as resolving any professional conflicts that may arise. The Supervisor troubleshoots any problems with data and communicates directly with management regarding exceptions, varied timelines, etc. They are also responsible for assisting with the management of regulatory activities, enforcing consistent adherence to required regulatory guidelines to ensure the highest quality and consistency of services. The Supervisor, Genetics Operations, with expertise in molecular testing, will analyze and understand the clinical aspect of high complexity tests, as offered by Caris Life Sciences, to provide up-to-date clinically relevant review of Molecular testing.
Job Responsibilities

  • Ensures department metrics are gathered, analyzed and reported concerning the status of department operations.

  • Interprets test results including troubleshooting of assays as necessary.

  • Follows established policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.

  • Follows the laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.

  • May be involved in research activities.

  • Works toward obtaining competency and subsequently performs all low and high complexity tests and tasks.

  • Consults with the Laboratory (Medical) Director and other professional on staff, as needed

  • Monitors test analysis and specimen examination to ensure acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.

  • Supports compliance to all applicable regulatory and standard requirements (CLIA, NYS, CAP, ISO, etc.).

  • Accepts other duties as assigned.

  • Achieves department goals and objectives; guides staff members in establishing appropriate priorities; periodically evaluates department and personnel performance in relation to goals and objectives.

  • Makes recommendations regarding hiring, discipline and promotion of subordinates; authorized leave and overtime; evaluates and rates employee performance.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient information in accordance with federal, state and local guidelines and regulations.

  • Represents the Genetics Department at Management Review meetings as needed.

  • Develops, train and mentor staff.

  • This position has been delegated the responsibility of assessing employee competencies.

  • This position has been delegated the responsibility of assessing peer reviews.

  • Actively engages leadership for performance feedback, growth opportunities and completes annual performance review.


Required Qualifications

  • Applicant will hold a minimum of a master’s degree in science or related field.

  • Knowledge, skills and experience in Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS).

  • 6+ years of experience in molecular methods in a CLIA, NYS, CAP, ISO regulated environment.

  • Knowledge of laboratory quality control procedures and regulations.

  • Demonstrates ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.

  • Ability to learn internal software programs.

  • Requires a high degree of care and attention with strict adherence to defined clinical testing protocols.

  • Demonstrated skills and high level of attention to detail in technical data.

  • Data interpretation and ability to troubleshoot.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, and general working knowledge of Internet for business use.

  • Conditions of Employment: Individuals must successfully complete pre-employment process, which includes criminal background check, drug screening, and reference check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on lab experience running NGS tests including library construction and basic understanding of sequencing metrics.

Physical Demands

  • Must possess ability to sit, stand, and/or work at a computer for long periods of time.

  • Visual acuity and analytic skill to distinguish fine detail.

  • Ability to pass a visual color discrimination test.

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.


Training

  • All job specific, safety, and compliance training are assigned based on the job functions associated with this employee.

  • Continuing Education – a minimum of 12 hours must be completed on an annual basis.


Other

  • This position requires periodic travel and some evenings, weekends and/or holidays.

  • Job may require after-hours response to emergency issues and/or deadlines.
