Job Description

As a member of the Technical Documentation team at Cognex, you will have an opportunity to help customers achieve their goals by developing clear and easy to use documentation in collaboration with Engineering and Product Marketing teams. You will build and maintain our library of printable and web-based manuals, guides, and help files, maintaining consistent and on-brand look and feel. You will create descriptions, process guides, and in-app user assistance using innovative methods and tooling. You will take part in brainstorming and design sessions with the team to come up with improvement ideas for the future. Your work will have a real impact on customer success.

Where your expertise is needed

• Creating clear, concise, and organized external and internal documentation for stakeholders
• Maintaining the existing information architecture using Git
• Analyzing and researching some technical issues independently
• Providing source files for localization
• Cooperating with the writing, engineering, and marketing teams to deliver print-ready and web-based documents in a fast-paced environment
• Maintaining documentation source files using Git
• Creating content using single source authoring tools including MadCap Flare and Confluence
• Adhering to rules of style and consistency when creating well-formed single source topics
• Working directly with .xml, .xsl, and html
• Creating graphics using Adobe Creative Cloud, and Solidworks Composer
• Following workflows, protocols, and standards developed by the team
• Developing standards and protocols with team members
• Working in an Agile environment

What you have

• Minimum 2 years of experience in Technical Writing
• Experience version control, build management, and XML-based authoring tools
• Proficient use of English language

The Hiring process

• Screening call: our recruiting team will contact you to have a short chat and after getting back to us they will ask for your availability for an interview.
• Interview with HR and Hiring manager: 60-minute chat in Hungarian and English with the Budapest HR and Documentation managers. This is primarily for us to learn who you are, and for you to learn who we are.
• Test: You will have 60 minutes to complete the test. It is intended to give us a picture of how you respond to the types of writing challenges you’ll face at Cognex.
• Follow-up: We will contact you after reviewing your interviews and test results. If there is mutual interest in proceeding, we will schedule a short conversation with the second line manager(s) of the team – a chance for you to learn more about working at Cognex as a Technical Writer.
