Technical Writer
Job Description
The Technical Writer will primarily support the company's apexportal software as a service offering with secondary support as needed to other proprietary apexanalytix software offerings.
- Knowledge: A seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization; resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways.
- Job Complexity: Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data and processes requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Networks with senior internal personnel in own area of expertise.
- Supervision: Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work but can grasp and execute on general instructions for all assignments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Proficient in the use of software packages, including Adobe products, Microsoft Office suite, and web-based presentation tools. Knowledge of documentation repositories like Confluence is a plus.
- Develop, update, and continually enhance various types of product documentation which includes but is not limited to user guides, process documentation, training materials or instructions for both internal and external clients across multiple product lines.
- Technical writer should be able to log into apexportal and smartvm and have full working knowledge of each product to create the documentation.
- Support apexportal, rules engine, configurator, smartvm, including all new functionality added related to risk, duplicate controls, etc.
- Assist with validation of new product offerings.
- Work directly with other Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to define documentation requirements, collect feedback on drafts, and publish final documents.
- Proven ability to be highly motivated with demonstrated ability to lead and define work with little direction.
- Strong communication and time management skills-the ability to balance high-quality work standards against time constraints and proactively manage approval requirements and deadlines.
- Ensure content is written in a way that is easy to understand and has a consistent voice.
- Adjust copy as necessary and proofread for grammar and spelling.
- Update and continually enhance product documentation.
- Develop and post content on internal Teams or SharePoint sites. Maintain these sites and document libraries to ensure documentation is easily accessed, accurate, and current.
- Archive obsolete documentation as necessary and maintain version control for all documentation.
- Ability to learn/gain proficiency in proprietary software tools and knowledge of the products and industry being supported.
- Ability to record step by step training material for use by both internal and external clients as new product offerings are released.
- Due to the evolving and growing nature of apexanalytix, the duties of the technical writer role must also grow to adapt to the growth as needed.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge Components
- Proficient in the use of software packages, including Adobe products, Microsoft Office suite, and web-based presentation tools. Knowledge of documentation repositories like Confluence is a plus.
- Knowledge of the principles for developing and improving technical documents to be disseminated to and understood by a diverse audience.
- Ability to recognize grammatical and formatting errors in client document deliverables. Proven ability to manage documents from concept through final production under tight deadlines with minimal assistance or revisions needed.
- Proven ability to manage concurrent projects with quick turnaround times.
- Proven ability to understand, use and explain complex software to both business and technical users depending on the documentation needed.
- Capable of delivering clear, concise, and effective presentation.
- Understanding of accounting and/or audit principles.
Experience
- 5+ years of professional technical writing experience for client documents.
- Intermediate understanding of accounting, finance, or audit processes.
- apexportal and firststrike experience is a plus.
Education Levels/Credentials
- Bachelor's Degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Information Sciences, or related degree
