Technical Writer

GAMA-1 is seeking a Technical Writer to join our team of qualified individuals in College Park, MD. Eligible candidates must demonstrate a high level of attention to detail, possess the ability to plan ahead and be customer-support focused. This position is responsible for supporting the project during the entire life cycle of the assigned projects.

ABOUT ASCSS

ASCSS specializes in transitioning scientific software applications from research to operations. We support the integration and transition tasks for several NOAA and non-NOAA weather satellites by ensuring that the product algorithms are brought up to operational standards. ASCSS works with science teams and stakeholders to: conduct a standard set of project reviews; generate a standard set of documentation; develop and refine requirements; track risks and mitigations; clean code for coding/security, apply common data formats, metadata and compliances; adhere to standard languages, tools, and libraries; test software; validate products, perform configuration management; and prepare the algorithm package for delivery.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Gather, analyze, translate and compose technical information into clear, readable documents.
• Compose and edit technical and user documentation, such as System Maintenance Manuals and External User’s Manuals.
• Write policies, procedures, workflows, and manuals.
• Develop diagrams and charts for improved presentation and understanding of system components.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS  

• Ability to possess a thorough understanding of the scientific and technical subject matter, documentation content, and requirements.
• Strong experience with Microsoft Office Suite. 
• Ability to obtain a Public Trust. 

DESIRED SKILLS  

• Teamwork, strong interpersonal skills.
• Strong experience with Microsoft Visio.
• Experience with system or software development.
• Experience with Agile life cycle process.
• Basic understanding of DevOps methodology and continuous integration & continuous delivery (CI/CD) concepts and practices.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in English, computer science, or related field.
