Job Description
Description: The Technical Writer is responsible for preparing and maintaining documentation, including policies, procedures, work instructions, and any other relevant materials, for one or more department(s) or project(s). The Technical Writer oversees the document development and review process, and works closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure content accuracy and completeness.
Major duties and responsibilities:
- Create and revise documentation related to company, department, or project policies and procedures, internal workflows, and reference guides
- Manage the document review process and other document-related assets, such as forms or attachments
- Work with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure content accuracy and completeness
- Version and update documents in the relevant Content Management System (CMS) and Learning Management System (LMS)
- Understand relevant document inventories and identify areas that require additional documentation
- Prepare meeting agendas, record committee meeting minutes, and manage various task lists
- Participate in the Frontier Science Technical Writers Group.
Other duties may include:
- LMS administrative tasks
- Handle scheduling, enrollment, and attendance of training sessions in the LMS
- Provide training on topics related to Technical Writing, or department topics
- Serve as an administrator for project electronic Trial Master File
- Work in the software development lifecycle for the purpose of maintaining program specifications, or writing end-user documentation
- Develop training materials for network meetings, in-house workshops, or other ad hoc meetings, or eLearning projects
- Review, proofread, and edit business correspondence (emails, letters, newsletters, or other documents) as requested
- Perform project/department-specific web page maintenance as needed
- Assist as necessary in vendor and project audits
- Assist as necessary in business development initiatives.
Reports to: Tech Writer Lead and/or Project or Department Lead
Controls over position:
Work is dictated by the needs of the organization and overseen by the Tech Writer Lead and/or the Project/department Lead. The Technical Writer may work closely with the Education and Training Director and/or Project or Department Lead to coordinate tasks related to development and delivery of training materials.
Required qualifications:
- Excellent writing skills and the ability to perform business writing tasks using proper English grammar
- Overall technical skills including advanced proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Previous technical writing or related experience, and teaching or training experience
- Ability to facilitate discussion among colleagues and gather information from SMEs for the development of new documentation
- Minimum Bachelor's degree
