Technical Writer

We are looking for an Experienced Technical Writer to create documentation and compelling content that shows developers how to apply Neon's cloud-based Postgres database.

To succeed in this role, you must be passionate about writing, with a focus on clarity, straightforward storytelling, and an information architect's approach to organizing material. You will combine your technical skills with creativity to consider different approaches that will solve challenging documentation and interface copy problems.

The work is going to come fast and furious — but you'll never let up on your attention to detail or your advocacy for the users. If this sounds exciting, we want to hear from you.

• Work with engineers to distill and extract key messages from a rough draft
• Create clear, concise, user-friendly deliverables, such as getting started guides, installation guides, tutorials, release notes, and occasionally blog posts
• Work with designers and illustrators to provide graphics, video, and other creative services appropriate for the audience
• Validate content for technical accuracy and completeness
• Act as an enabler for engineers and the other technical and product roles, democratize the technical writing in Neon

• Reproduce the user journey of the beginners and advanced users of Neon
• Install and configure Neon for internal and external testing and validation of the produced artifacts

Writing and editing:

• 5+ years documenting sophisticated technologies for developers and IT professionals, or equivalent work experience (as a software developer, product manager, or solutions architect, for example)
• Experience writing documentation for developers
• Experience documenting APIs, CLIs, SDKs and similar tools
• Mastery of the tools of the technical writer and editor: consistent voice, straightforward and lively style, understanding (or intuition!) of the rules of grammar and usage

Teamwork:

• Excellent interpersonal communication skills
• Desire to be an enabler for others
• Ability to contribute other written content including UI and website copy and internal documentation
• Comfortable working in a startup environment

Technical:

• Experience in using Git, GitHub, and CI/CD for docs
• Proficiency in lightweight markup
• Basic SQL proficiency and understanding of relational databases
• Strong analytical skills, with excellent problem-solving abilities
• Obsession with technical accuracy and attention to detail

Nice to have:

• Experience with SaaS and open-source products
• Comfortable using command line tools
• Experience working with PostgreSQL (or other databases)
• Basic proficiency in at least one programming language
• Experience with SEO
