SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Work procedures and training material are compiled and published by a Lead Quality Assurance Analyst/Technical Writer. Technical skills using the Microsoft Office suite of products will be needed for content creation and presentation. Experience in providing professional services is required to facilitate the compilation of standard work procedures. The Technical Writer must be comfortable providing instructor-led training on how to use templates and tools. The Capital Delivery portfolio is large and encompasses several technologies and industries. The Technical Writer must be able to process large amounts of data, create summary reports, and provide analysis. Published documents are maintained on a SharePoint site. Familiarity with project management would be useful.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develops project, construction, and engineering procedures and templates.
  • Must be familiar with the Microsoft Office suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.
  • Creates training material that provides guidance on using standard work procedures.
  • Coordinates training courses (on-line and in-person), manages training records
  • Works with production on the creation of computer-based training courses
  • Always maintains a professional services attitude
  • Managing documents in SharePoint

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, technical writing, or equivalent
  • Experience in a professional service firm creating procedures and training
  • Extensive experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, MS Project)
  • Document control and management (e.g. SharePoint)
  • Strong Written and Oral communication skills with ability to present complex information
  • Must have work authorization in the United States.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office Programs
  • Ability to work under time constraints to meet deadlines
  • Excellent written, organizational, and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivery of training programs throughout various levels in the workplace.
  • Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving experience through innovative approaches or solutions.
  • Must have strong technical knowledge of document control standards, Quality Assurance audits, and electronic processing of documentation
  • Ability and desire to learn and train on new software/systems at a rapid pace; ability to become a recognized expert on those systems

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 6 years of experience in a professional service firm creating procedures and training
  • In lieu of education a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience
  • Transportation or construction industry experience
  • Microsoft Power Application, Power BI, and Power Automate development
  • Data analysis
  • Project management experience

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Willingness to travel approximately 20% based on business requirements
  • Must be able to travel to Amtrak Philadelphia offices approximately one day per week.

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

The salary range is $103,160 - $133,700. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee's assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee's base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
