Job Summary
Digital Cloak is currently seeking an mid-level Technical Writer/Editor to join our Corporate Communications department. You will be responsible for preparing technical artifacts to effectively communicate complex information for federal and non-federal clients. You will also develop technical and business documentation targeted at the public as well as Digital Cloak’s industry partners. The ideal candidate must be self-motivated, able to complete tasks in a timely manner, and able to work independently and creatively with minimal supervision while also working effectively as part of a team and under direction.
The successful candidate will work half-time supporting a systems development and training project and will work the remaining half-time supporting a variety of other writing/editing tasks.
Essential Functions
- Write or revise a variety of technical and business artifacts, including presentations, articles, plans, reports, training materials, white papers, analyses, and proposals.
- Organize material and complete writing projects according to set standards regarding clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
- Study drawings, specifications, and mockups; observe developmental activities; and/or interview experts to discover and synthesize relevant details.
- Incorporate animation, graphs, illustrations, or photographs to increase reader understanding of the material.
- Select appropriate medium, such as manuals or videos, for specific messages and/or audiences.Â
- Perform comprehensive editing a well as copyediting of material provided by other authors.
- Coordinate amongst multiple authors and across multiple workstreams.
- Support other communications activities as required, including business development and marketing initiatives.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Demonstrate experience in authoring, editing, and maintaining technical documentation.
- Ability to conduct independent research and translate findings into understandable, consistent prose across a variety of artifacts.
- Ability to discuss complex information with people of diverse occupational backgrounds.
- Ability to craft messages and artifacts targeted at senior audiences.Â
- Excellent command of the English language, including the rules of composition, grammar, and punctuation.
- Demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Word, including advanced formatting and long document techniques. This includes but is not limited to a sound command of styles and cross-referencing.
- Highly detail-oriented.
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and simultaneous workstreams while applying quality control and versioning processes.
- Flexibility to meet non-negotiable deadlines.
- Sound business ethics, including the commitment to protect proprietary and confidential information.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Familiarity with modular authoring.
- Proficiency with RoboHelp or similar modular authoring tool.
- Proficiency with Acrobat Pro.
- Proficiency with other Microsoft applications, especially PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint.
- Familiarity with MacBook, iPad, and iPhone.
Required Education, Certifications/ Licenses, Related ExperienceÂ
- Bachelor's degree in an applicable field such as English, Communications, Professional or Technical Writing, Journalism, or related.
- 5 years of experience as a technical writer/editor.

Physical Job RequirementsÂ
- This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position (seated) most of the time.
- This position requires the ability to spend most of the time viewing computer monitors.
Clearance Requirements
- US Citizenship is required.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance is required.
- The ability to obtain and maintain favorable suitability adjudication is required.
Primary Work Location
- Stafford, VA. This is intended to be a 3:2 hybrid position (3 days in the office and 2 days at home each week). This work schedule may change, however, as needs of the Director of Communications change.
Travel Requirements
- This position has travel requirements up to 10%.Â
