Job Description

This position is responsible for leading the Rockwell Automation Technologies, Inc. ("RA-Tech") organization which is responsible for managing the technology licensing for Rockwell Automation and providing integration services for Technology Partners and other 3rd parties that are supportive of Rockwell Automation strategies.

  • Technology licensing support includes the proliferation of both open and proprietary technologies and incorporates third-party training and development as required.
  • Integration services includes the delivery of customized software solutions that enable complementary 3rd party hardware and software products and offerings into the Rockwell Automation Connected Enterprise Production System.

This position is responsible for all department activities including contract negotiation, royalty collection and distribution, service fee collection, marketing and promotional activities and related sales support activities. This position collects and maintains data necessary to develop and distribute a monthly income statement for the business. The scope of RA-Tech is global and covers all of Rockwell Automation.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Develop, maintain, and continually enhance and communicate technology licensing strategy that identifies appropriate technology, Intellectual Property and defines the total business potential for Rockwell Automation. Communicate as appropriate to Business Unit leadership within the company.

Develop, maintain and communicate hardware and software licensing strategies consistent with Business Unit strategies and in accordance with intellectual property guidelines set forth by the legal department. Manage and support a network of Value-Add Developers Program (VADP) that can support such strategies.

Working closely with Business Unit product teams, identify, create, and maintain proprietary component kits that are required to support hardware licensing strategies.

Develop, maintain, and continually enhance and communicate integration services strategies to maximize the benefits of enabling complementary 3rd party hardware and software products and offerings into the Rockwell Automation Connected Enterprise Production System

Develop, negotiate and sign commercial agreements and technology licensing contracts with those companies worldwide that will increase individual business's competitive position and/or revenues. Act as the vehicle to mediate and balance potential conflicts with business partnering opportunities that may arise between businesses. Balance revenue opportunity and commercial risk before entering into new opportunities communicate and drive a decision process.

Develop and implement programs to proliferate Rockwell Automation supported open technologies with primary emphasis for working with Technology Partner leads and Strategic Alliances.

Assist corporate legal and outside attorneys in the defending of major brands programs, intellectual property, patents or licenses.

Proactively create long term strategies to license, develop and deliver Rockwell Automation technologies into alternative markets. Provide training and development assistance on appropriate open technologies that Rockwell Automation supports in their product architectures.

Work closely with the Technology Partner Managers to identify leverage opportunities to take advantage of existing relationships to develop revenue-generating opportunities. Work with Industry Solution Teams to identify key products and providers to help establish Rockwell Automation technologies at key accounts.

Where not under direct control create a virtual organization to optimize and harmonize technology transfer processes and tasks.

9. Develop and Manage department expense and capital budgets.

10. Manage, develop and coach the department personnel for maximum productivity and quality.

*JOB ENVIRONMENT: This position calls for significant commercial skills to represent the functions and services of RA-Tech to senior management of Rockwell Automation and other companies. Highly developed skills in problem solving and negotiation are necessary to protect our market position and technologies. Broad background in various company technologies and application of our core products is useful for recognizing new opportunities.

*SCOPE OF POSITION: Position has direct responsibility for Rockwell Automations Technologies, Inc. This position has ties to all regions and is responsible for coordinating technology transfer on a global basis. License fees, royalties and service fees generate revenue in excess of $12 million dollars of revenue annually, with high growth potential. RA-Tech allows for a revenue stream that helps justify new developments and extend our architecture and product technology into key new market areas.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in Engineering or equivalent
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in the industrial automation marketplace.
  • Background in technology licensing and legal contracts is helpful.
  • A good understanding of technical and business operations within Rockwell Automation is necessary.

  • Solid commercial and negotiating skills are a requirement for the position.
