Your role:
The Technology Development Engineer will join our team with ERC, a JETS teammate company.
What you'll do all day:
- Participate in NASA's ongoing preparations for sample return from solar system bodies such as asteroids, the Moon, other planets' moons, comets, Mars, etc.
- Help define, implement, and design laboratory tools and instrumentation for curation of astromaterials.
- Develop sample handling tools and containment gloveboxes using CAD software
- Assist and communicate laboratory design requirements for new and refurbished sample return labs
- Design and fabricate tools to support imaging systems, such as gantries for cameras, microscopes, and lighting
- Design and fabricate systems for inert gas systems, including ultrapure nitrogen for purging gloveboxes
- Coordinate maintenance and upkeep of current and new facilities/laboratories and equipment
- Take part in domestic and international meetings (remotely and in-person)
- Prepare Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for new lab processes/instruments
- Sustain a safety-first laboratory culture
- Perform design engineering duties such as, creating concepts, prototyping, assembly, acceptance testing, and reengineering
- Perform other duties as required

Minimum requirements for this position:

- BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school
- Experience in engineering design and the processes used to generate concepts, develop prototypes, and perform acceptance testing
- Experience using 3D CAD, such as Creo, Solidworks, Autodesk Inventor or other solid model/manufacturing software highly preferred
- Must be capable of and willing to work as part of a team with mixed skillsets, including scientists, engineers, technicians, etc.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills.
- Willing to learn new laboratory techniques, develop new/unique technologies, and generally able to work "outside the box"
Desired skills and experience for this position:
- BS or MS degree in mechanical, aerospace, environmental, petroleum/geotechnical engineering, or associated engineering discipline.
- Proficiency with the design of vacuum, glovebox, and/or cryogenic systems
- Familiarity with product design and manufacturing processes
- Self-starter that can take a design from concept to final product
