The Platform Security Team ensures that existing and new business capabilities are secured and are protecting CNA and simplifying how our colleagues work. It falls to us to integrate technologies the business wants to use and ensure our security team is ready to protect CNA properly. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to learn leading-edge technologies, determine how to enhance those, integrate additional features and capabilities and identify opportunities for the team to better protect the environment.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Program Features and Benefits:

• Research and assess the risk of emergent cybersecurity threats and system deficiencies and learn from senior engineers on how to best address those deficiencies
• Operate as a team member for efforts across the IT organization providing support to the team and key partners and vendors
• Work with experienced cybersecurity leaders to advise the business on potential cybersecurity concerns.
• Challenging, innovative assignments that provide real-world experience in applying technical education to technology projects
• Work directly with experienced CNA Information Security staff to understand real-world cyber-threats and how to mitigate them
• Learn about industry-leading cybersecurity tooling, controls, and protections
• Rotate between a diverse team and diverse technologies to better understand how "defense in depth" works here at CNA
• In-depth education in security tooling and technology, the insurance industry, CNA's organization and how Technology plays a leading role in an insurer's profitability
• A dedicated manager and a mentor who will guide you throughout your internship program at CNA
• Opportunities to meet with members of our senior leadership team and learn about their personal experiences in Technology within the insurance industry

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

• Must be a sophomore, junior or senior (undergraduate) or in first year of Masters program pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field
• Knowledge of Information Security and Application Security
• Knowledge of Systems and Network Architecture, with a focus on endpoint and email
• Prior programming experience in any language is preferred
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment and the ability to cultivate and maintain positive business relationships
• Strong organizational skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Effective problem solving, analytical aptitude, learn quickly and embrace change
• Ability to learn and change quickly

Key Deliverables:

• Present an analysis/findings on at least three proposed areas for improvement, including operational activities, projects or requests to the Platform Security team.

Key Learning Outcomes:

• Understand the basic process of risk mitigation and preventative controls
• Understand what constitutes a cybersecurity threat, vulnerability, and risk
• Learn about the structure and make-up of a Fortune 500 Cybersecurity department
• Research methods to understand available solutions/thought leadership
• Presentation skills on technical concepts in a corporate environment

Program Location:
CNA's corporate headquarters is located in the heart of downtown Chicago at 151 N Franklin St, near all public transportation from the city and suburbs. The program will employ a hybrid working model, alternating between working in the office and from home.
