ABOUT THIS JOB:

The Manager is responsible for managing a team of associates through development; the oversight of support; the oversight of the team's strategic mission within IT; ensuring the team's collaboration throughout IT; and, ensuring positive interaction with all customers and external partners. The position requires strong interpersonal, communication, organizational and managerial skills.

The Manager is responsible for implementing the mission of their team and influencing the strategic vision and goals of their team through the successful work of their team members.

The Manager is responsible for the support of all systems within their team's area of responsibility. This includes ensuring that the team is focused on strong customer service, collaborating to successfully resolve conflict with a win-win resolution and that the team's efforts consistently meet CarMaxยฎ business requirements, direction, and standards.

In this role, you will be responsible for leading a team of software engineers to define, design and deliver of critical document related capabilities that can be leveraged across all business channels, allowing teams to achieve their core mission. You and your team will be focused on offering cohesion across the organization from document generation to storage and collaboration across the enterprise.

The Technology Manager's primary responsibility is to manage the day-to-day operations of their team to provide technology solutions and services that help deliver CarMax's strategic mission and plans. This includes removing roadblocks to team success, strong collaboration with peers and business partners, tactical and strategic planning, and development of team members. You will work internally with your teams and work with 3rd party vendors, ensuring we are providing the right tools and resources to teams consuming our products.

The Manager is responsible for identifying high performing talent, gaps in talent, and train and develops associates to close those gaps. The Manager mentors and develops future leaders in courageous leadership, associate development, and communication skills.

What you will do - Essential Responsibilities

Technical Qualifications:
  • 5+ years' experience in software engineering of highly scalable services platforms/ecosystems
  • 3+ years' experience in building and managing document related systems
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Content Management technologies such as Box, FileNet, OpenText, etc.
  • Knowledge of Document Generation technologies, including Adobe and DocuSign
  • 3+ years' experience in Cloud Engineering and/or SaaS products preferred


Management Qualifications:
  • 1 to 3+ years' experience managing direct reports, required
  • 3+ years of experience required leading software projects leveraging Agile practices, required
  • Bachelor's in technology related major; Master's preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership skills - can apply clear direction and priorities to teams
  • Serves as an empowering coach to the team by providing them with the resources, training, feedback, and a sounding-board to be successful in their roles balancing technical debt with speed-to-delivery customer focused team,
  • Innovative; thinks beyond boundaries
  • Passionate about information technology
  • Analytical; solves problems at root cause and prioritizes effectively
  • Promote a customer-focused team, balancing technical debt with speed-to-delivery

  • Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based in the Richmond, VA Corporate office and have a Hybrid work arrangement.
