Telescope Operations Specialist
Job Description
What You’ll Do:
As a Telescope Operations Specialist, you will support Slingshot’s efforts to accelerate the security, safety, and sustainability of space by playing a key role in the expansion and operation of the Slingshot Global Sensor Network.
Position Responsibilities:Â
- Executes all position responsibilities in alignment with Slingshot’s core values, mission, and purpose
- Help define and support strategic plans for successful telescope network operation
- Help deploy and maintain remote optical telescope systems by supporting installation, calibration, and testing needs
- Coordinate telescope hardware procurement activities such as component sourcing, purchasing, receiving, assembly, crating, and shipping
- Support observatory site surveys, site selection, and hosting negotiations
- Troubleshoot remote hardware issues and work with observatory hosts around the world to resolve them, with occasional travel to support telescope system installation and repairs
- Document telescope operation processes and support inventory management activities
- Perform other duties as assigned (to be less than 10% of the responsibilities listed above)
Pre-Requisites
- Must be a U.S. citizen eligible for government clearances
Minimum Requirements
- Associate’s degree from an accredited university
- 2+ years of experience in operations and/or sustainment
- Customer-success-driven, hands-on, action-oriented, positive personality
- Experience or a keen interest in learning about optical telescope systems
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time within and outside of the United States to support sensor installations
- Ability to lift 55 lbs. regularly
- Ability to work long periods in both hot and cold temperature environments
- Other physical requirements: reaching overhead, reaching at or below shoulder level, climbing ladders, gross manipulation (holding, grasping, turning, working with the hands), fine manipulation (touching, picking, pinching, or otherwise working with the fingers)
Preferred Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Astronomy, or Business Administration with a focus in Computer Information Systems
- Observatory operations and/or telescope sustainment experience
- Knowledge of optical systems and experience working with telescopes

Classification: Full time Exempt (learned professional exemption)
Salary Range: $50,000-$67,000
