Temporary Digital Designer, Editorial

Our work takes many forms: from breaking news and social graphics, to longform feature storytelling to 360 design for annual tentpole Forbes packages like 30 Under 30, the Forbes 400 and the Billionaires List. The editorial team drives the look and feel of the brand. We amplify our work through our social platforms, which reach another 44 million people every month. We collaborate with the editorial, photography, video, product, technology and events teams to tell holistic stories that add value to our audience's everyday lives.

The ideal candidate is a quick learner and conceptual thinker.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the editorial, photo, video and social teams to determine the best approach to storytelling on all Forbes platforms including the website, social media accounts, newsletters and print.
• The ideal candidate has an aptitude for illustration and photo collage with the ability to create art independently for daily feature stories.
• Concept and art direct illustrations and animations with outside illustrators.
• Proactively contribute creative ideas during brainstorms with photo and design team.
• Design data visualizations based on reporting and research.
• Design feature stories within our custom CMS.
• Creative approaches to design for social formats.
• Knowledge of what works best to promote your stories on social media platforms.
• Ensure a consistent visual style across all platforms that aligns with Forbes’ Brand Guidelines.

Requirements:

• BA/BFA in Design with 2+ years of digital design experience, preferably at a media or editorial publishing company.
• Process rooted in strong conceptual thinking with a sophisticated sense of digital design, composition and typography.
• Fluent in the full Adobe Creative Suite, Figma and Sketch. Knowledge of Adobe After Effects is preferred.
• Have a passion for journalism and storytelling.
• Have a solid understanding of user experience.
• Excellent organization skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced breaking news environment under tight deadlines.
• Strong communication skills. Designers need to be able to clearly and concisely express themselves and explain their ideas.
• You enjoy staying current on design trends and industry technology, sharing findings with the department to facilitate new ways of thinking, working and problem solving.
• A portfolio that demonstrates an eye for storytelling, excellent taste, a passion for design and a keen sense of what will perform well on different digital platforms.

The hourly rate for this role is $34.00 - $34.00
