Test Engineer

Position Overview:

Solid Power is seeking a Test Engineer to join our talented team of engineers and scientists working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next generation, all solid‐state rechargeable batteries. Solid Power is a dynamic, fast‐paced, collaborative and innovative team environment. The engineer will be focused on the development of new cell test instrumentation and systems to achieve Solid Power’s internal testing goals.

Job Duties:

• Develop test instrumentation, data acquisition systems, test methods, and solutions to assist in the execution of internal test plans.
• Evaluate existing capabilities and define new processes resulting in reliable and repeatable tests of new battery cell technologies.
• Build and instrument test benches and setups to test prototypes and other articles that include load cells, temperature sensors, pressure sensing, voltage/current sensing, LVDTs, etc.
• Evaluate Battery Test Management Systems to improve the efficiency and throughput of cell testing.
• Integrate new and improved cell test safety system infrastructure.
• Lead efforts of validating, calibrating, and troubleshooting on all cell test equipment.
• Conform to and improve safety precautions and protocols.
• Maintain thorough and accurate records of all conducted tests.
• Create work instructions and procedures for new and common tests.
• Clean and organize common equipment and lab areas.
• Use the company’s document and change control system to properly archive technical documentation.
• Work closely, collaboratively, and effectively with other departments and team members.

Qualifications/Requirements: 

• Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical, electrical, or other related discipline and 2+ years’ experience in a related industry.
• Proficiency in scripting languages and/or statistical software such as:
  • VBA, Python, C/C++, LabView, Matlab, Minitab, Excel, AVL Concerto, PLC (Allen Bradly Preferred)
• Preference for industry experience in testing of Lithium ion/Lithium battery rechargeable cells.
• Preference for proficiency in programming & using battery cell test equipment (Arbin & Maccor) and proficient in reviewing and analyzing various aspects of test data.
• Strong ability to troubleshoot and identify root cause of equipment and software malfunction.
• Ability to adapt to rapidly evolving cell test needs.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Salary Range: $61,000 - $114,000/year
