Your Role:

  • This role will work closely with the engineering design teams and vehicle validation team to build, maintain and operate a wide variety of high energy (mechanical, electrical, thermal) test systems on the critical path of the FF91 vehicle program.
  • Assist with vehicle setup, debugging and execution of tests, collaborate closely with the Engineering teams to define and build equipment including design, sourcing, assembly and creation. This role will include mechanical fabrication and construction, electrical wiring (high and low voltage controls/comms), custom instrumentation setup (e.g. voltage, current, temperature, flow rate).
  • As the Vehicle Validation-Test Technician, you will be responsible to:
  • Perform a wide range of vehicle tests including performance, reliability, durability, vehicle systems validation, and abuse testing.
  • Execute test procedures and support development of test procedures and DVP/Rs.
  • Identify test equipment and instrumentation to purchase for vehicle level testing and measurement.
  • Be responsible for instrumentation of test vehicles including installing accelerometers, strain gauges, pressure transducers, thermocouples, and microphones
  • Contribute to Vehicle Test Reports for Durability, Environmental, Electrical, Firmware, Reliability, and High Mileage Accumulation Testing that includes both subjective and objective test findings and results
  • Participate in preliminary analysis and failure analysis activities
  • Coordinate with external test labs, suppliers, and test tracks to organize and execute testing
  • Correlate test data to vehicle level requirements to ensure all vehicle systems meet targets and acceptance criteria
  • Document and track all issues discovered by validation testing activities and lead issue resolution efforts
  • Work with design teams, systems teams, and CAE teams to understand issues found during validation testing
  • Support vehicle testing schedules and highlight and prioritize critical path tests

Basic Qualifications:

  • AS or higher degree in Automotive Technology, Mechanical Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience in an engineering development environment
  • Troubleshoot and debug electromechanical test setups
  • Ability to operate and maintain a wide variety of hand and power tools, shop tools, and lab equipment
  • Electrical prototyping skills (soldering, wire harness fab, harness diagram familiarity)
  • Experience with test equipment (e.g. digital multimeter, oscilloscope, thermocouple data acquisition unit)
  • Safety oriented – this role will require lone interaction with high-voltage and high-power electrical equipment on distributed energy resources. Understanding of electrical and rotating equipment hazards. Must have experience working with high voltage electrical systems. Must be able to identify energy sources in order to disable and verify safety through LOTO or other means. Must understand all site hazards and mitigate risk.
  • Demonstrate mechanical aptitude – ability to take things apart and reassemble them without instructions.
  • Detail-oriented personality with solid documentation and reporting skills including project management tools like JIRA / Confluence.
  • Understanding of engineering processes & their downstream impacts, as well as the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and electrical schematics is required
  • Basic understanding of the vehicle electrical systems –including Multi-Plexing and CAN-Bus systems or similar required
  • Candidate must have good verbal, written and presentation skills and be proficient with
  • Microsoft Office Suite of products.
  • Potential candidate must be well organized, extremely detail oriented, ambitious, authentic, goal oriented, and be able to work independently and /or in team settings required
  • High voltage experience, safety important
  • Experience with Vehicle interface tools (ideally CANalyzer or CANape)
  • Knowledge of DVP&R test result interpretation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in vehicle development and validation testing preferred
  • Electric or hybrid vehicle experience
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing and deployment
  • Knowledge of FMVSS and SAE standards and practices
  • Experience with fault injection testing methodologies
  • Proficient skills in MATLAB/Simulink
  • Electronics hardware design & validation experience
