Job Description
This position provides individualized and recreation-based therapeutic services to Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare patients as a purposeful intervention to facilitate physical, emotional, cognitive and social growth.
Compensation & Benefits
The hourly wage for this opportunity is $24.90/hour to $37.37/hour, with a median wage of $31.13/hour. Pay is dependent on several factors including relevant work experience, education, certification & licensure, and internal equity. Hourly pay just one part of the compensation package for employees. Major Challenges
- Providing individualized leisure services to a diverse patient population
- Finding age-appropriate leisure options for disabled youth and adults
- Prioritizing service needs
- Identifying adaptions or modifications to allow youth and adults to engage in leisure activity.
Major Job Responsibilities
- Evaluates patient's status to determine and develop an effective therapeutic plan.
- Provides appropriate interventions to facilitate therapeutic recreation services.
- Serves as a resource to staff by providing information on therapeutic leisure and social opportunities and interventions.
- Supports the family and patient by providing focused patient/family care.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation
- CTRS Certification, or must be obtained by 90 days of hire
- Current CPR certification (BLS through American Heart Association) required, or must obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
- Preferred experience working with a wide range of patient populations, especially patients with short-term or long-term disabilities
- Current knowledge related to adapted leisure equipment
- Demonstrated understanding of community resources and ability to share these resources with patients and families as appropriate through treatment plans.
- Demonstrated knowledge of human development and individuals' coping mechanisms
- Knowledge of the effects of hospitalization and healthcare at different development stages
- Knowledge of family systems
- Knowledge of wellness and basic fitness concepts
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology
- Strong communication skills - listening, writing, and speaking.
- Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to build rapport with children, adults and families
- Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources.
Gillette requires all staff to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 unless there is a Gillette-approved medical or religious exemption. New hires will be required to have at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine prior to starting employment and submit proof of 1stdose of COVID-19 vaccine prior to 1stday.
