Vast’s Spacecraft Thermal Analyst will be working to help advance the thermal engineering development of our Orbiter spacecraft. The position will require a complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the field of thermal engineering. You will use your experience to develop active thermal control systems. This includes developing thermal models and performing thermal analysis. Some of the components you will work with include valves, injectors, chambers, nozzles, thrusters, and igniters. As the Thermal Analyst, you will work autonomously and within a team environment.
ResponsibilitiesÂ
- Develop thermal models for components and systems using Thermal Desktop and or Ansys Workbench.
- Provide design input to improve vehicle thermal performance.
- Design, test and validate thermal control systems.
- Perform thermal model validations using test and flight data.
- Participate in design reviews.
- Documenting your work for future reference and later refinement
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in aerospace, mechanical, or a related engineering field with a strong background in heat transfer.
- Direct spacecraft thermal engineering experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of aircraft and spacecraft systems.
- M.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
- Experience with ANSYS.Â
- Familiarity with orbital mechanics and attitude dynamics related to thermal analysis.
- Experience integrating thermal control systems like MLI or thermal straps.
- Experience with Star Trackers, Sun Sensors, Rate Gyros, Magnetometers, GPS On-Board Computers, Reaction Wheel Assemblies, and Torque Rods.
- Experience designing and integrating passive thermal controls such as MLI.
- Familiarity with relevant aerospace standards and thermal design criteria (FAA, FAA-AST, NASA, MilSpec, etc.)
- Excellent communication (oral, written, presentation) and the ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues. Â
- Ability to successfully complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision and oversight within a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
