Summary
THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This National Guard position is for a TITLE 5 NURSING (OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH) (MI JFHQ OSS), Position Description Number NGT5155P01 and is part of the MI JFHQ Army, National Guard.

- Irregular and overtime hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies.
- The employee may be required to travel in military and/or commercial aircraft/vehicle to perform temporary duty assignments.
- Must have a valid civilian driverβs license.
Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Months Required: 42 Months
The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing.
Requirements for the GS-5 (or equivalent) Grade LevelTo qualify at the GS-5 (or equivalent) grade level, applicants must meet one of the following qualification requirements:
- Possession of a bachelor's degree in Nursing with no experience; or
- Possession of a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing and one full year of professional nursing experience.
In addition to the above Requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- Possession of a bachelor's degree in Nursing and eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement provision;
- Possession of a bachelor's degree in Nursing and at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-5 grade level);
- Possession of a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing and two full years of professional nursing experience; or
- Completion of at least one full year of graduate education in a professional nursing educational program.
In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- Possession of a master's degree in professional nursing; or
- At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program.
In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; or
- At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program.
In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Requirements applicants must have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level.
Education
You must meet the following Education requirement to qualify for this position:
A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education(external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs(external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education(external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
LicensureFor all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination(external link). In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
You must provide transcripts or other documentation to support your Educational claims. To receive credit for Education, you must provide documentation of proof that you meet the Education requirements for this position.

Veteran's Preference: Veteran's preference must be validated by formal submissions of necessary supporting documentation. You must provide acceptable documentation of your preference or appointment eligibility. Failure to submit all supporting documentation WILL result in the loss of veteran's preference, and could possibly impact your placement on the certificate sent to the selecting official. You must provide a legible copy of your DD214(s) which shows dates and character of service (honorable, general, etc.). If you are serving on active duty and expect to be released or discharged within 120 days you must submit documentation related to your active duty service which reflects the dates of service, character of service (honorable, general, etc.), and dates of impending separation. Additionally, disabled veterans and others eligible for 10-point preference must also submit an SF-15 "Application for 10 Point Veteran Preference" AND required proof as stated on the form. Documentation is required to award preference of any kind. An SF-50 is NOT sufficient to adjudicate preference.
