The Tool Design Engineer Intern provides tool design and tooling implementation support to the New Product Introduction (NPI) teams with the goals of maximizing product quality and minimizing product cost. With the support of the Project Leader and the plant Manufacturing Engineering team, the Tool Design Engineer Intern supports new tool design that will improve product quality, reduce product cost, and improve product manufacturability. The Tool Design Engineer Intern manages the tooling documentation process, selects appropriate manufacturing methods and assists in development of various tool types; assembly, weld, and specialty tooling. The Tool Design Engineer Intern also explores new technologies and materials that can be beneficially incorporated into product designs and manufacturing processes.
What Will You Do?
In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for:
- Learning and participating in the New Product Introduction system
- Identifying new tooling technologies and processes with potential for Toro
- Design and implementation of new tooling
- New plant tooling implementation opportunity evaluation and recommendations
- Evaluate standardization opportunities in welding equipment and related tooling
- Complete a report out presentation to present to other Toro employees
What Do You Need?
To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:
- High school graduate actively enrolled in an accredited 4 year engineering program in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Automotive Engineering Technology, or related. Must have achieved Junior status (2 years completed).
- CAD/design background/studies preferred.
- Ability to work independently on projects and on a team.
- Works under the guidance of a Tool Designer as assigned.
- Some travel to other Toro facilities may be needed
