Summary:
The Tooling Services Engineer will focus on execution and implementation of best practices in regard to tool management & procurement procedures. This includes managing all cutting tools for production plants, budgeting and forecasting tooling expenditures, and work for overall improvements to cost of machining. In addition, knowledge of tool room routing and processing, sharpening tools in cutter grind and a working understanding of crib activity & inventory management. This role requires knowledge and practical experience with a multitude of tooling processes including turning, milling, grinding, broaching, hobbing, and honing.
Responsibilities:
- Support tooling issues in manufacturing plants as they relate to inventory, cost, procurement, forecasting and consumption.
- Analyze process elements for improved tooling capability and reduce cost.
- Be well-versed in the financial side of tooling. Be able to manage tool cost to a budget and document variances.
- Provide technical support to plant operations as it relates to tooling.
- Maintain regular contact with others outside the work group, including tooling manufacturers.
- Understand Tool Room and Cutter Grind processes including ability to read prints, follow routings and knowledge of machining.
- Provides a physical presence on the production floor and support services areas.
- Computer literacy (MS Office).
- Someone with tooling experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Competency with SAP, Maximo and Visual Manufacturing.
Education Requirement:
Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience
Experience:
- Minimum 5-7 years' experience required.
- High level of analytical ability where problems are complex.
- Direct manufacturing experience with an emphasis on metal cutting.
- Knowledge of tooling and manufacturing process and equipment.
- Understanding of machine tools.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- The ability to work effectively in a group setting.
- The ability to work independently, and a willingness to seek counsel on difficult and complex issues.
- The ability to multitask.
- The ability to take on new task and roles.
- Computer skills, including MS Office.
