Responsibilities
The role of the Data Acquisition Product Manager is to plan, coordinate, and supervise activities related to the end-to-end process in acquiring third-party data that is used to support MEC's business operations. The Data Acquisition Product Manager is responsible for working in partnership with both internal and external business stakeholders to establish the scope of data acquisition, to secure MEC's rights to policy holder data, to acquire this data, monitor data submissions to ensure the appropriate data quality standards are met, employ modern methods for electronic data exchange, and to define and own the escalation process for when data is not obtained. This individual will apply excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, knowledge of the industry, and best data acquisition practices to maximize the value of data collected from third parties.
Key functions include but are not limited to:
- Regularly work with internal business stakeholders and the Data Services team to acquire and maintain the flow of quality data from third-party data providers, inclusive of primary and excess workers compensation data from third-party administrators and self-administrated funds as well as other types of public and proprietary data that supports business decisions and operations.
- Identify, manage, and control systemic challenges - inclusive of people, processes, and technology - with the consistent acquisition of quality data from third-party data providers.
- Establish consistent and lasting collaborative relationships with third-party data providers. Work to continuously strengthen these partnerships
- Actively work to overcome objections to supplying MEC with the requested third-party data. Identify and recommend to MEC's leadership methods for securing MEC's right to claim related data from third-party data providers.
- Identify, manage, and control interventions for increasing the number of past and current accounts for which MEC consistently receives loss data in all forms. Work to maximize the flow of quality electronic loss data.
- Identify and recommend cost-effective data acquisition and data exchange methods and practices.
- Define and apply measures to determine the effectiveness of MEC's data acquisition practices.
Qualifications
- University or college degree in the field of computer science or business administration or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of direct work experience in a data management capacity with an emphasis on acquisition, or direct work experience managing business partner relationships, or a combination of both.
- Experience in developing and implementing modern data acquisition best practices and processes.
- Familiarity with insurance and medical industry data with an emphasis on claims data.
- Familiarity with the technical concepts associated with electronic data exchange and related data quality.
- Ability to establish collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent negotiation skills.
- Can conform to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines by applying analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Takes ownership of tasks and holds team members accountable for their commitments.
