Position Summary:

The Trade Analyst, Agriculture is responsible for influencing and executing the export pricing policy for bulk loaded agriculture commodities for Export from the US & Canada. This position reports directly to the Director in charge of the strategy of both this commodity segment and forestry products. This is primarily a pricing role, but the position is also exceptionally able to engage with our largest customers to drive business and the strategy put forth. To be successful the analyst will gain familiarity with key Agri-Trade accounts and develop an expert understanding of international Trade markets associated with this segment. Daily, a Trade analyst will work with local and global Sale's agents, Line Managers in Marseilles, commercial support departments (contracts, amendments, tariff filing), as well as Customer Service groups and other Trade colleagues to complete these tasks. Secondary functions include maintaining service contracts, as well as creating and analyzing commercial reports. The Trade Analyst will also construct new proposals, review lanes in existing contracts to support current business, as well as execute pricing within LARA SQ for non-contract customers and overseas FOB requests.

This position will be responsible to:

  • Provide trade management with market intel to guide pricing strategy and identify new business to target.
  • Coordinate with the equipment team on areas of surplus to ask for regular business or spot deals from customers to avoid empty evacuation.
  • Conduct market and commodity analysis using PIERS data.
  • Analyze and price export cargo opportunities for the bulk agricultural commodity. Helps with cargo campaign and calling customers for business. This includes both new business and re-evaluating existing contract and tariff rates.
  • Perform or coordinate maintenance on service contracts. This entails adding new ports of call and surcharges, removing discontinued lanes, processing contract rate amendments, and correcting any contract errors. This duty is often performed directly by the Trade analysts rather than by Commercial Support.
  • Coordinate and prepare proposals for new customers and contract renewals for existing customers.
  • Serve as point of contact and information source for different departments and agencies. Inquiries including but not limited to general Service info, system (LARA, TERRA, rate base, and others) trouble shooting, container routing decisions, container tracking, customer's financial disputes / mitigation requests, and requests from Sale for backup / archived information.
  • Consult with Head Office for extended free time requests, cargo routing and OCC cost structure discrepancies, special commodity approvals, etc.
  • Help customers and Customer Service regarding service updates, correct routings, new surcharges, and interpreting service contracts. Research customer service-related issues and supply backup to internal teams based on these findings.
  • Maintain quarterly pricing matrices in coordination with the Line pricing strategy, to be completed and uploaded to Sales' Key Documents.
  • Prepare the quarterly plan for the agricultural commodity segment, schedule and participate in meetings with Sales to complete the plan, populate the plan into the Lines Vessel Profile by the deadline communicated by management.
  • Review and analyze Line Contribution performance reports, provide feedback on specific business and action plans to improve financial results.
  • Complete miscellaneous related duties or projects as assigned.

Skill Sets / Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Associates Degree required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of industry experience required, preferably with Trade, Sales and/or Finance management carrier's experience.
  • Experience within the agricultural export space a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal skills

Must be available to work 8:00am -5:00pm, Monday thru Friday
