Job Description

Basic Function:

Position typically exists in a medium sized plant setting. The position is responsible for supporting all Shipping/Receiving department activities by coordinating and developing economical and efficient transportation service for the facility. Will organize and prepare paperwork for shipments in and out of facility or from suppliers; and the rating and routing inbound and outbound shipments where the Company bears the cost of transportation. Responsibility may include both domestic and international shipments.

Essential Duties:

  • Must possess thorough and relevant product shipment / traffic knowledge.
  • Prepare all shipping documentation which includes, but is not limited to, bill of ladings, shippers, packaging lists, backorders, and customs documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle responsibilities with effective interpersonal skills and to effectively interface with others inside and outside the Company is required.
  • Assists the Traffic Lead coordinate the routing of ongoing and incoming shipments for which the Company assumes responsibility, or which affect Company costs or customer satisfaction.
  • Keeps informed of current transportation facilities, rates, and regulations to ensure economical and efficient transportation service to the Company and its customers.
  • Maintain contacts with responsible executives of air, marine, motor, or rails carriers to promote mutual understanding and to further the Company's interests.
  • Assists the Traffic Lead in processing or reviewing claims against carriers for shipping losses or damage in transit.
  • Reviews and checks reviews of freight and express bills to correct rates and extension and process overcharge claim.
  • Completes work assignments and priorities in Traffic department by using policies, data, and resources.
  • Demonstrates enthusiastic, cooperative, and positive behavior.
  • Maintain a favorable working relationship with all employees to foster and promote a cooperative and harmonious working climate.
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities in a timely and effective manner in accordance with established policies to achieve overall objectives of this position.
  • Apply intellect, creativity, adaptability, judgment, and management skills to achieve required results.
  • Position requires ability to work in a normal office and production plant with welding, machining, and fabrication operations environment.
  • Ensure duties and company projects are accomplished in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Provide feedback to Lead or Department Managers for process improvements, cost savings ideas, new vendors, etc.
  • Support peers and management with internal and external projects.
  • Adhere to company policies.
  • All other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Education Required:

Associates Degree in Business, Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or High School diploma or GED or equivalent work experience.

Experience Required:

2+ years of experience coordinating shipments of heavy, oversized loads both domestically and internationally preferred. Experience with ERP / MRP system, MS Excel, Word, Access software preferred, knowledge of ISO processes and materials helpful.

Physical Skill and Effort:

Work requires moderate speed and accuracy operating office equipment. Work requires infrequent physical effort; position requires ability to work in a normal office and production plant with welding, machining, and fabrication operations environment.

Working Conditions and Hazards:

Normal plant, shop, field or office conditions. From time to time, slightly disagreeable features. Negligible/little or no exposure.
