About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. This is a full-time position in the excepted service that may be filled as a temporary promotion NTE 1 year by a current Army employee serving on a permanent excepted service appointment. Temporary promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years, and may be made permanent without further competition.
This is a full-time position in the excepted service that may be filled as a temporary appointment NTE 1 year, if candidate is not a current permanent Army employee. Temporary appointments may be extended up to a maximum of three years.
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Training Instructor (Athletic)
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes the use of instructional or athletic training techniques and principles for 1) Assisting in teaching and/or instructing an athletic training program for a military installation, college, or other closely related academic institution; 2) Assisting, developing, and/or recommending changes to materials designed to teach courses in physical education; and 3) Performing duties as a licensed athletic trainer in a clinical setting to diagnose, treat, and/or rehabilitate orthopedic injuries. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Education or a subject area related to the position to be filled, such as Physical Education. (You must include a copy of your transcripts with your application package.)

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. (You must include a copy of your transcripts with your application package.)
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's) in the following four areas:
1. Ability to diagnose and treat injuries incurred by students as a result of military training, physical education, personal conditioning, or varsity athletic competition.
2. Ability to apply corrective and physical therapy techniques to pre- and post-operative orthopedic patients.
3. Knowledge of and skills to utilize current therapeutic devices to include ultrasound, electric stimulation, intermittent compression units, cybex, zero-gravity treadmill, and aquatic therapeutic devices.
4. Knowledge of hospital administration at a Military Treatment Facility.
5. Ability to educate athletic training students during their clinical rotation in an athletic training facility.

Situational telework is sometimes also referred to as episodic, intermittent, unscheduled, or ad-hoc telework. Situational telework is approved on a case-by-case basis, where the hours worked were not part of a previously approved, ongoing, and regular telework schedule.
