About the Role:
Windstream's Transport Engineer will be responsible for the engineering and design of DWDM systems. This will entail developing funding approval with project plans and requirements including cost estimates. It will also involve developing the scope of work including installation design packages, ordering materials, and monitoring expenditures to prevent overages. This role will be responsible for the overall project management of jobs to ensure they are on schedule and within budget through operations acceptance. The Transport Engineer will create the budget to actual variance reporting for assigned projects and will be responsible for the interpretation of industry and Windstream engineering processes, procedures, and standards. The incumbent will also analyze database records, circuit layout reports, and equipment records to determine and verify existing equipment or configurations.
What You'll Do:
Planning, scheduling, and reporting the progress of projects for which he/she is responsible
Work with fiber optic transmission equipment, remote terminals, alarming, synchronization, DC power, superstructure, and site layout
Fulfill expansion order activity for assigned projects, consistently manage and close tasks accurately and within required time frame
Create job packages which include technical instruction and method of procedures to provide to the installation group for installation of new equipment
Create and maintain inside plant site documentation
Report to the Staff Manager of Engineering
Do You Have?
An engineering degree (EE or ME preferred) or equivalent direct experience in detail and fiber optic system engineering
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Good organization and documentation skills
Project management experience
Technical writing skills
Intermediate skills with Excel, Visio, CAD (computer aided design), Word, and Access
Ability to manage high volume of projects ensuring all project goals and limits are met on all assigned projects
Ability to organize multiple tasks and priorities
Self-motivated, self-disciplined and possess interpersonal and team skills
Other duties may be assigned
Even Better:
Understanding of Metro-Ethernet, Long-haul and local transport, troubleshooting, detailed Method of Procedures, and Ethernet networks/services
Minimum Requirements:
College degree and 0-2 years related experience or 4 + years equivalent related Engineering/Technical experience or a combination of education and related Engineering/Technical experience required.
The starting compensation range for this job is $63,400 to $83,200.
