JOB
With minimum direct supervision, work alone or with other members of the treatment crew in performing required daily tasks. Interfaces with other Utility Department personnel, City administrators, other City departments and the general public. The Water Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for operations of the water plant and wells in order to ensure that residents have potable water in accordance with federal, state and municipal regulatory, policies and standards.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Maintain plant records, both operational and regulatory.Collect and perform the required operational laboratory tests.Performs daily checks of the Water Treatment Plant and well sites.Performs daily reads on various metersInspects, operates and performs routine maintenance on Water Treatment Plant and Well facilities and grounds.Receives chemical shipments and maintain an inventory of treatment chemicalsPerforms control room duties; Monitor water distribution and pump system using a computerized SCADA system. Maintain plant cleanliness.Remains accessible via personal cell phone to address job-related issues or emergencies using City applications.Other duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Skill in utilizing a personal computer, associated software programs, including Windows and Microsoft Office applications.Ability to establish and maintain professionally effective relationships with external public/vendors, internal management and non-management employees, and City and other government officials.Ability to develop, implement, and administer goals, objectives, and procedures for providing effective and efficient services for the CityAbility to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, as well as strong time and task management skills.Ability to learn a basic knowledge of general laboratory equipment, metering pumps and instrumentation.Ability to learn a basic knowledge of State and Federal regulations governing the treatment of surface and ground water.Ability to work with minimum supervision.Subject to sitting and standing to perform essential functions in an outdoor environment and under extreme weather conditionsVisual acuity, speech, and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate office equipmentRegularly scheduled for 5-day, 40-hour workweek, Monday through Friday; overtime occasionally required.Ability to lift up to 80 pounds with assistance.Ability to safely operate machinery and vehicles.Ability to remove and repair mechanical components of the treatment plant.Ability to work on a fixed evening or night shift.Will work around hazardous chemicals; must possess knowledge of the various chemicals found in the treatment plant.Will work around loud machinery noise; must protect from hearing loss associated with this hazard.
