Job Description
Summary
Attorneys in the Section litigate in federal district and appellate courts around the country. The Section represents DOJ, DHS, DOS, DOL, HHS and other agencies in cases of first impression involving constitutional rights, statutory interpretation, agency rulemaking, federal authority over immigration policies and border security matters, the administration of foreign worker and investor programs, and immigration matters with a national security nexus.

Conditions of Employment

- May require completion of a 14-month temporary appointment, subject to extension, pending the completion and adjudication of your background check.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance with eligibility for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access depending on organizational assignment / duty location.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the bar (any jurisdiction), have at least one year of post J.D. experience to qualify at the GS-12 level; have at least one and a 1/2 years of post J.D. experience to qualify at the GS-13 level; have at least two and a 1/2 years of post J.D. experience to qualify at the GS-14 level; and four years of post J.D. experience to qualify at the GS-15 level. You must also be a U.S. citizen.
Preferred Qualifications: Individuals with civil litigation experience in federal court, including a federal clerkship, are encouraged to apply. Individuals with federal prosecution experience are also encouraged to apply. Experience with high-volume civil discovery is preferred.
Applicants must have excellent writing and advocacy skills, as well as superior negotiation and interpersonal skills. Successful applicants will be highly motivated, exhibit sound judgment and creativity, and have several years of active litigation experience. Judicial clerkship experience is strongly preferred.
