U.S. Cybersecurity Correspondent (Level 1Journalist)

Reuters News is seeking an experienced Cybersecurity Correspondent to cover the deep links between technology and security. They will join our award-winning global cybersecurity reporting team. This position will be based in the U.S., preferably New York or Washington.

About the Role

In this opportunity as Cybersecurity Correspondent, you will:

• Report on major hacking incidents, with the aim of understanding how the breaches were carried out, who is behind them, what damage was done, whether defenses were adequate and how the victims and others responded, among other questions.
• Work on deeper investigations, shedding light on a world that mostly operates in the shadows and tracking the evolving policy response by governments.
• Focus on developments in the U.S., but the story is global and the correspondent will frequently be involved in stories outside the region.
• Be involved in intensive day-to-day collaboration with colleagues in Washington, San Francisco and London, and frequent work with non-specialist correspondents in Reuters bureaus around the world.

About You

You're a fit for the role of Cybersecurity Correspondent if you have:

• At least three years of journalism experience, with some period focused on technology.
• The ability to write quickly and accurately under deadline pressure.
• Comfort with and aptitude for technology, as the beat involves highly complex topics and some of the reporting techniques require some technical skills.
• Strong inter-personal skills and the ability to work closely with a variety of collaborators.
• A track record on the cyber or general technology beat and an existing source network is necessary.
• Outstanding written English is essential. Proficiency in Chinese or Russian would be assets.
