Job Description
Who we are:
Optimal Dynamics is on a mission to automate and optimize the logistics industry through the use of advanced analytics. We are based on more than three decades of R&D at Princeton University and represent the most sophisticated technology ever developed for the logistics industry. Optimal Dynamics is a high-growth early-stage company with ~70 employees (but changing very quickly!) and $56M in funding.
About the team:
We are a team of bright, kind, and solution-oriented people focused on creating value for our customers. We can solve problems individually, but understand that the best solutions are found when the team brainstorms ideas together. We are excited about balancing the need to deploy new solutions quickly and designing solutions that are secured, reliable, maintainable and scalable for the long run.
The Role:
As a UI Engineer, you will be at the forefront of creating the modern decision layer for the logistics industry. You will own significant chunks of our architecture, design and build systems at scale, and shape product decisions. You'll work on challenging projects, make an impact, and grow as an engineer.
Who you are:
- You are a quick learner and excited about learning new technologies
- You thrive in an environment with lots of context and minimal guidance
- You are passionate about automated testing, code quality and engineering best practices
- You are adept at communicating and collaborating effectively with others, promoting your ideas as well as being humble when you may be wrong
- You enjoy taking full ownership of projects from conception to production
- You like to work within a small team, collaborating with your colleagues (product manager, designer, software engineers) to ship impactful products
Responsibilities:
- Implement rich, interactive data visualizations using modern JavaScript and software development techniques in partnership with the other engineers on the team
- You will iterate on our agile-inspired process to help us build better software as a cohesive team
- Ship incrementally and often, helping the team to maintain a constant flow of feedback on its work
- You will collaborate with our analytics and product teams to define the scope of projects, and plan deliverables
- Influence the direction of our roadmap, team processes, and become a significant contributor to planning and execution
Qualifications:
- At least 2 years of professional front-end development experience
- Strong React fundamentals with demonstrated experience writing performant and reusable components
- Deep familiarity with modern Javascript (ES6+), HTML, CSS/SASS
- Experience working within the constraints of a design framework (e.g. Material-UI, Ant, etc)
- Experience querying data from a variety of sources such as REST APIs, and key/value datastores
- A love of data visualization
- Experience reviewing PRs and applying best practices to reviews
- Collaborative working style and excellent communication skills
- A curious personality with a drive for learning and a desire to champion the continuous improvement attitude
Nice to have:
- BS in Computer Science or a related degree
We use these technologies:
- React, Docker, RESTful APIs, and Kafka for microservices implementations
- Git/Github for source control
