The Health Utilization Management (HUM) Analytics team is incorporating advanced analytical practices and tools to delve much deeper into health data information. We are developing cutting edge informatics to identify opportunities aimed at helping Cigna achieve growth goals in the Health Utilization Management space. These goals are designed to ensure our members are receiving efficient and effective health care services and procedures, and to drive affordability by assessing the appropriateness of care using evidence-based guidelines.

The person in this role will work collaboratively with our Medical Directors, as well as other clinical team members, to provide partnership in analytics, developing analytics solutions, leveraging data and technological capabilities and embedding analytics driven processes. These solutions will be used to inform how to constantly improve continuum of care between our physician partners and customers as they navigate the delivery system.

In this role, you will:

  • Perform advanced trend analytics to answer "what happened?"
  • Conduct root cause statistical analyses to answer "why did this happen?"
  • Develop predictive models to answer "what will happen next?" and "who is it likely to happen to?"
  • Mine data to answer "where are the opportunities?"
  • Deploy innovation processes and pilots to answer "how can we get better?"

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Provide expert content/professional leadership on complex analytical projects in the Health Utilization Management business area
  • Evaluate clinical health outcomes to determine the effectiveness of health program, services and solutions
  • Analyze results and present analytics in a consumable method using overview, major takeaways, major questions, and next steps and analyze and interpret trends or patterns in data sets through descriptive and multivariate statistics
  • Understand how our analytics affect the broader business and bridge the gap between Data & Analytics and other stakeholders
  • Maintain analytics skillset through understanding new technologies, modeling techniques, and the ability to execute and apply to our work
  • Exercise considerable creativity, foresight, and judgment in conceiving, planning, and delivering initiatives
  • You will interface across multiple business areas, including, but not limited to clinical, pricing, reporting, product development, operations, and marketing departments as needed.
  • Effectively present results and recommendations to non-technical business partners and stakeholders to drive the decision-making process

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Healthcare Analytics, Data Science, Biostatistics, Statistics or Mathematics and/or at least 5-7 years of related data analysis work experience in healthcare
  • Minimum 5 years' healthcare experience solving business problems through the application of analytic approaches
  • Previous experience conducting program evaluation/outcomes research methods, predictive modeling and data mining is required
  • Experience developing data visualizations and strong data stories that highlight key insights and opportunities. Tableau experience is a plus.
  • Experience querying large datasets using SAS, SQL, Python or other programming languages
  • Comprehension of healthcare data (e.g., authorizations, ICD-10, claims) and demonstrated understanding of health care and delivery system processes
  • Proven leadership in a heavily matrixed environment with an ability to foster strong partnerships
  • Self-motivated with a constant curiosity and desire to learn new things
  • Proven commitment to delivering high quality results
  • Experience collaborating with others and establish working relationships, communicate effectively across the organization and at different levels, think and act strategically, and influence key leaders with a Strong customer focus and management of stakeholder expectations

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 107,900 - 179,900 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.
