Underwriting Assistant, Contract Surety

This position is to assist in the day-to-day activities of billing new bonds, cancelling or adjusting existing bonds. Oversees proper completion of bond forms and compliance with state requirements and maintains account and bond files as directed. Provide underwriting support to Surety Underwriting team and explanatory service to internal and external customers, including agents and clients within a defined territory.
Responsibilities:
- Classify, code, rate new business, renewals and endorsements based on underwriting rules and rate manuals.
- Process cancellations, bond reinstatements and riders.
- Effectively maintain a high level of knowledge with internal Surety Systems.
- Become a subject matter expert with the ability to maneuver in the internal Surety Portal.Â
- Maintain strong relationships with agents/brokers to help service Contract Surety business.
- Ability to pull Credit Reports or any other financial document on both a static and trend basis.
- Stay up-to-date with all Contract Surety product lines and ability to answer basic questions with agents, engaging or referring appropriate parties as necessary.
- Ability to investigate, analyze, and execute all necessary workflow issues, within framework of Surety policies and procedures.
- Assist in collecting past due premium on agencies.
Key Competencies:
- Strong oral and written communication skills needed.
- Strong web based knowledge.
- Organization and prioritization required to meet multiple demands and commitments.
- Ability to problem solve and critical think through known issues.
Preferred Technical Skills:
- Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office software products.
Education:
- High School Diploma or higher degree in Finance/Accounting, or Management or equivalent work experience in a related field.
- Prior experience with a bond processing system is a plus.

For individuals assigned or hired to work in California, Colorado, Hawaii, Jersey City, NJ; New York State; and/or Washington State, the base salary range is listed below. This range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.
$55,300 - $71,910/year

Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above range may be modified in the future
