Underwriting Assistant, Marine Insurance

We’re seeking an Underwriting Assistant to join our Marine team, working directly with customers, and providing support to our Underwriters. Throughout the country, we specialize in writing Marinas, Boat Dealers, Shipyards, Ports, Marine Contractors, Vessel Repair Operations, and Hull/P&I. This is an opportunity to be part of one of the best Marine divisions in the industry. We pride ourselves on providing excellent service to our customers, which is a team effort from underwriting to processing.

Your Impact:

• Assist on a book of renewal accounts, conducting underwriting reviews 90 days before expiration, and flagging any risks outside program parameters.

• Assess if risks fall within underwriting appetite and authority, and send legal notices if required.

• Refer cases outside authority level to the lead underwriter with a complete assessment.

• Maintain organized electronic policy files according to department standards.

• Issue policies (Package, Commercial Marine, Umbrella/Bumbershoot) within 48 hours of receipt using automated systems.

• Follow up with brokers for missing documentation to ensure compliance.

• Order and review motor vehicle reports (MVR), notifying lead underwriter of any concerns.

• Request and follow up on loss control surveys.

• Process endorsements, cancellations, and reinstatements.

• Assist with new business rating and report ordering as needed.

• Communicate with brokers regarding policy questions, coverage, and billing.

Successful Candidates Will Have:

• Associate’s Degree or equivalent for two-year college or technical school; or at least one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

• Ability and desire to continue professional development through industry and/or outside courses to obtain a professional designation.

At One80 Intermediaries, base pay is one part of our total compensation package, which also includes a comprehensive suite of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, disability, life, and retirement savings, paid time off and paid holidays for eligible employees. The total compensation for a position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. The expected base pay range for this position is between $17.79 - $27.41 per hour+ bonus. The actual base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including geographical location, education, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
