What you're applying for

We're seeking an Underwriting Associate to join Lemonade's expanding Underwriting Operations team.

In this role, you'll play a crucial part in driving the company's success by analyzing risk and making strategic decisions. You'll focus on reviewing new business across multiple product lines to ensure sound underwriting practices.

In this role you'll

• Evaluate home insurance quotes and post-bind reviews based on our underwriting guidelines
• Review requests for scheduled personal property coverage for high-value items
• Participate in cross-training to eventually review car insurance new business
• Communicate decisions to customers via email, showing empathy and customer centricity
• Apply sound judgment when determining the acceptability of new business within our underwriting guidelines and risk appetite provided by our Underwriting Strategy Team

What you'll need

• 1+ year of experience in a customer-facing role within the P&C insurance industry (Underwriting experience strongly preferred)
• Strong analytical abilities and creative problem-solving skills
• Proven experience in making sound underwriting guideline decisions and exercising judgment in both soft and hard insurance markets
• Superior desk management to respond to customers and work within multiple platforms
• Solid understanding of how underwriting influences loss ratios and potential future claim exposures
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Adaptive to evolving processes and system changes
• Ability to work effectively in a remote environment

The anticipated pay for this position will be $24 - $28 per hour. Base pay is one component of Lemonade's total compensation package, which will also include equity in the form of RSUs, access to healthcare benefits, 401(k) plan with company match, robust PTO, parental leave, and more.
