Unix Engineer I

Role Overview:

FTC supports the Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics (DOL BLS) by providing IT Support services. We are looking for a Unix/Linux Engineer with more than 2 years’ experience administering Linux servers in enterprise environments. RedHat experience is desired but other flavors are valid.

Responsibilities:

• Performs varied aspects of administering, operating, and maintaining a computer network, with a mix of Linux/Unix and Windows servers
• Provides mid-level support for the installation, maintenance, and usage of a local/wide area network systems
• Executes test procedures to assess systems performance, identifies and troubleshoots problems, and analyzes results for the implementation of system upgrades
• Under general guidance, manages network performance and maintains security
• Responsible for the installation, maintenance, and usage of a local/wide area network
• Manages network performance and maintains security
• As required, assumes a technical leadership role

• Two (2) years of experience working with computer network telecommunications, UNIX/LINUX operating systems, and the TCP/IP protocol.
• Two (2) years of experience administering network management protocols and related standard tools.
• Two (2) years of experience providing support in telecommunications, local area network, computer security issues, and established security practices.
• Two (2) years of experience administering, operating, maintaining, and securing a mid- size computer network with one year in a technical leadership role.
• Two (2) years of experience deploying computer system applications in a client/server network environment
• US Citizen or Green Card required
• Must be able to pass a government background check

Formal Education:

High School or equivalent

Years of Professional Experience:

• Two (2) year of experience:
  • Providing technical support and system administration on an enterprise environment, primarily for Linux servers
  • Diagnosing and resolving server problems
  • Providing support to patching and updates for Linux/Unix servers

• System admin for Linux servers in enterprise organizations, ideally on networks with over 100 servers and appliances
• Can show experience managing users, backups, installation of Linux servers, etc. for at least 2 years.

Professional Certification(s):

Nice to have: Any Unix/Linux cert (RedHat preferred), ITIL
