What you will do:

The Senior Design Specialist will work on the Split Systems New Products Introductions Engineering team that is part of Ducted System for Johnson Controls. In this division we manufacture and assemble heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment for the light commercial and residential markets. Johnson Controls has three Ducted Systems plants with approximately 1500 employees each; one in Norman, OK , one in Cienega, MX, and one in Wichita, KS. This position will be located in our Wichita, KS plant and will report to the Director of Engineering.

This position will be responsible for supporting the current effort to make Ducted Systems the standard of the industry through 3D model conceptual ideas to final detailing and documentation of new model designs. Key elements of the Senior Design Specialist role are to be able to work with project engineers and team member designers to optimize, and execute design concepts, designing complex 3D component from design intent to completion, create and organize Bills of Materials, and implement Engineering Changes (EC's) against prioritized list of project activities or requests as required.

How you will do it:

  • Develops and directs the design portion of major programs maximizing drafting productivity, including project leadership and leadership of Drafters and/or Designers on a design team.
  • Prepares 3D models, starting from design intent, drawings and layouts of piece parts, units, or assemblies of unusual, complex, or original concepts in design from engineering data requiring a high degree of precision and expertise.
  • Prepares and executes BOM creation and modifications and leads other team members in the same.
  • Initiates and executes Engineering Changes (EC's) as required as part of the program activity.
  • Monitors and reports program progress and taking appropriate action to react to deviations from plan, to maintain on-time product documentation releases.
  • Develops construction concepts for products that meet overall business goals.
  • Generates business opportunity ideas such as work productivity enhancement, product cost improvement, cost avoidance, and new business ideas.
  • Acts as internal CAD (CREO) consultant and trainer.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

What we look for:

  • High School Diploma and Associate/Technical Degree or equivalent combined education and experience.
  • A minimum of ten years experience with CAD (CREO Preferred).
  • Proficiency in a Windows operating environment, including email and Microsoft Office software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective and professional communication and organization skills.
  • Expertise in configuring and troubleshooting CREO and WindChill.
