TransUnion is in search of a Senior Counsel eager to join TransUnion's Privacy Legal team. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about privacy and has experience advising businesses on how to analyze and respond to potential data security incidents.
What You'll Bring:
  • Juris Doctorate (JD) degree required, with 4-6 years of experience practicing as an attorney in a law firm or in-house position, with a focus on privacy and potential data incidents
  • Expertise in US privacy and data protection laws such CCPA/CPRA, CPA, VCDPA, UCPA, CTPA, and COPPA required
  • Expertise in potential data security incident response, as well as US state and federal statutes, regulations, and self-regulatory rules relating to potential data breach notifications required
  • Expertise drafting, reviewing, and negotiating privacy-related contracts and provisions, such as DPAs, service provider addenda, business associate agreements, etc. required
  • Keen understanding of the changing landscape of US privacy laws, regulations, and guidance
  • Experience implementing the intricacies of US privacy laws, particularly in financial services or other highly regulated industry, preferred
  • A team player willing to contribute and operate in a manner consistent with TransUnion's Core Beliefs
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal/written communication, and contract drafting and negotiation skills
  • Ability to build and foster strong relationships with, and relate well to, peers, staff, and management of all levels of the organization
  • Ability to communicate difficult legal concepts and become a trusted business partner
  • High level of ethics and integrity in professional matters, sensitivity for confidentiality, and respect for individuals
  • Strong organizational, analytical, prioritization, and critical-thinking skills (root cause analysis, logic, problem solving, issue spotting, and decision making)
  • Ability to work independently, under moderate to limited oversight, yet exhibit sound judgment in seeking guidance and direction from senior attorneys and escalating issues
  • Ability to read, interpret and advise business partners on complex documents, including laws, contracts, business documents, system documents, company policies, and procedures
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

We'd Love to See:
  • International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) CIPP or similar certifications are preferred

Impact You'll Make:
This role is part of the Privacy Legal team in the Legal function and works across various internal functions and business units
  • Provides privacy legal support around potential data security incidents, including evaluating potential incidents, assisting in preparation of communications related to potential data security incidents, and serving as a subject-matter expert for state and federal data breach notification statutes, regulations, and self-regulatory rules
  • Serves as an escalation point for legal colleagues around reviewing, negotiating, and drafting complex privacy-related contract matters, such as DPAs, service provider addenda, and critical negotiations
  • Advises internal clients on legal and business issues and the implications of alternative positions to enable informed business decisions for an innovative, dynamic, public company that is a leader in the global marketplace
  • Provides advice to stakeholders regarding changes in law, contracts, or other legal issues that may involve the company's short or long-term strategic operations
  • Keeps abreast of current legislative and regulatory developments that may have an impact upon operations
  • Assists other attorneys on various matters including those which may present potential for litigation
  • Maintains complete confidentiality of company-related business
  • Keeps immediate supervisor informed of pertinent developments within areas of assigned responsibilities
  • Provides formal and informal training for internal clients
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • This position may require occasional travel.
