About the Team:
We're on a mission to create, advocate, and define excellence in the user experience to enhance the lives of the 2.3 million Walmart associates. We build compelling product experiences and services to enrich the entire journey of our associates, whether they are in our home office, stores, and throughout the supply chain. We lead design with research. Understanding the needs of our associates comes first. Designing with deeply understanding of the problem to solve and identifying the business, technical and user requirements is our guiding principle.
As a Sr Manager I on the Design Research team you represent the perspective of our associates to help understand their needs, motivations, and pain points to validate opportunity-based intersection between business strategy, user needs and competitive landscape. Partnering with design, product, and technology leaders, you help transform the omni-channel associate digital experiences. You will oversee a team of researchers and collaborate with partners to recommend generative and evaluative methods to produce high caliber research. You model best practices using data and metrics to ensure team creates a robust insight-driven solutions. A holistic design thinker, you love solving ambiguous challenges and bringing together people from all levels and functions, not just at your own domain, to envision end-to-end experiences.

  • A demonstrated track record owning and leading design research to influence product roadmap and launch new products.
  • Exhibit excellent ability to work cross-functionally, garner support to secure resources, and think strategically to create research strategy for complex product areas.
  • A maker mindset. You have an extensive research toolkit of generative and evaluative research methods and know how to apply them in a fast-moving organization. You guide your team on how to best address research goals and questions, so your partners don't have to.
  • Demonstrated data-inspired research and the ability to translate research data into product priorities and strategic narratives, new business opportunities, within and across different projects and products to inform end-to-end journey.
  • Experience crafting and facilitating Design Thinking workshops with your cross-functional teams and with leaders.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to motive teams and influence partners.
  • Find joy in leading by doing. You inspire, coach, and contribute to our team culture.

You'll make an impact by:
  • Crafting a strategic research roadmap that pulls from a broad toolkit of in-person and remote research methods including interviews, un-moderated studies, field studies, participatory design, co-creation, diary studies, surveys, and usability testing.
  • Leading your team and working well with others.
  • Solving complex problems with curiosity and openness.
  • Proactively soliciting and leveraging competitive research, data, and analytics to inform design and business strategy.
  • Thinking holistically through the entire ecosystem of end users and competitors.
  • Switching gears from deep design thinking to rapid-fire execution.
  • Having exceptional communication & presentation skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience designing and launching front-end user experience solutions and back-end complex systems using modern web technologies such as responsive design and iOS and Android design best practices.
  • Designing front-end user experience solutions for service-oriented (SOA) architectures.
  • Developing user experience solutions with agile methodology, eCommerce, Software Design

Minimum Qualifications...

Option 1: Bachelor's degree in UI/UX design, graphic design, visual communication, product design, computer science, information technology, or related area and 4 years' experience in market research, business analysis, UX design research, or related area.
Option 2: 6 years' experience in market research, business analysis, UX design research, or related area.
As permitted by applicable law, provide evidence of full vaccination as defined by CDC guidelines OR secure approval of medical or religious accommodation for the vaccination mandate.
1 year's supervisory experience.
