Our Merchandising eCommerce data engineering team is part of Walmart Global Tech Data & Customer Analytics team. The team builds data assets to empower business teams in eCommerce site operations (walmart.com and W almart mobile apps) to measure, understand and bring insights to our core merchandise data including Sales Orders, SKU , Offers and Partner data to empowers product application teams for innovating the customer experience on our site . We build out complex data workflows using GCP (Google Cloud Platform) , Spark, GPU (Graphical Processing Units) , Hive, Kafka and other technologies to process hundreds of billions of transactions.
You'll sweep us off our feet if:

• You have expert-level technical skills and a proven track record of building data pipelines using GCP, Spark, GPU, Hive, Kafka that are highly scalable, performant, and reliable
• You can design data flows and architecture of data warehouse or data lake solutions or end to end pipelines autonomously
• You can own data areas completely , can be the Point of contact for your area and build strong relationship with your business stakeholders

You'll make an impact by

• Data Modeling: Influencing the overarching data strategy and vision for data pipelines and data products. Overseeing and governing the expansion of existing data architecture and the optimization of data query performance via best practices. Presenting and socializ ing data models to business and information technology stakeholders.
• Data Architecture: Design ing , implement ing , and improv ing processes in data management.
• Culture champion: Standardiz ing and build ing a fact based metric driven engineering culture across the engineering organization. Help ing hire, upskill, and mento r a strong team of data engineers.
• Lead ing and participat ing in medium-to large-scale, complex, cross-functional projects by reviewing project requirements. Translating requirements into technical solutions. Gathering requested information, writing, and developing the code. Communicating status and issues to team members and stakeholders, collaborating with project team and cross functional teams. Troubleshooting open issues and bug-fixes. Enhancing design to prevent re - occurrences of defects, ensuring on-time delivery and hand-offs. Daily interacting with project manager to provide input on project plan and providing leadership to the project team.
• Lead ing the work of other small groups of six to ten engineers, including offshore associates. Lead ing assigned Engineering projects by providing pertinent documents, direction, and examples: identifying short- and long- term solutions and timeline. Reviewing and approving proposed solutions, implementing new architectural patterns, and performing design and code reviews of changes.

• Troubleshoot ing business and production issues by reviewing and analyzing information (for example, issue, impact, criticality, possible roo t cause), engaging support teams to assis t in the resolution of issues. Formulating an action plan, directing actions as designate d in the plan. Interpreting the results to determin e further action, performs root cause analysis to prevent future occurrence of issues and completing online documentation.
• Support ing business objectives by collaborating with business partners to identify opportunities, addressing high-priority initiatives (for example, business strategy, technical feasibility, implementation alternatives), identifying short- and long-term solutions and leading cross-functional partnership.
• Lead ing the discovery phase of medium to large projects to come up with high level design by partnering with the product management, Web Operations, project management, business, and user experience teams. Obtaining cross-function approvals, driving proof-of-concept, and implementing prototypes to validate ideas.
• Develop ing Innovation strategies, processes, and best practices by leading internal technical teams. Partnering with cross-functional teams across the business. Developing assessments of key opportunities, documenting project scopes, developing long-range plans and project timelines. Communicating with and influencing decision-makers and executives within the organization and resolving technology differences across teams through informed discussions.
• Utiliz ing industry research to improve Wal-Mart's technology environment by analyzing industry best practices, benchmarking industry against internal processes and solutions. Researching or influencing future industry solutions to fit with internal needs and defining software development guidelines, standards, and processes.

• Driving the execution of multiple business plans and projects b y identifyi ng customer and operational needs. Developing and communicating business plans and priorities, removing barriers and obstacles that impact performance. Developing contingency plans and demonstrating adaptability and supporting continuous learning.
• Ensur ing business needs are being met by evaluating the ongoing effectiveness of current plans, programs, and initiatives. Applying suggestions for improving efficiency and cost effectiveness; and participating in and supporting community outreach events.

Minimum Qualifications...

Option 1: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and 5 years' experience in software engineering or related field. Option 2: 7 years' experience in software engineering or related field. Option 3: Master's degree in Computer Science and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related field.
4 years' experience in data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence, or business analytics.

• You are well versed with Hadoop, Hive, Spark using Scala.
• You have a proven track-record coding with at least one programming language (e.g., Scala, Java, Python)
• You are experienced in public cloud computing platforms (e.g., GCP, Azure)
• You are skilled in data modeling & data migration protocols

• You have experience with Presto, Big Query is an added advantage.
• You have experience with data integration tools like Automic , or Airflow
• You have the ability to write requirements for ETL (Extract Transform Load) and BI (Business Intelligence) developers
• You are an expert in data architecture principles, distributed computing dealing with large data volumes
