As an Experience Design Manager, you will lead a design team in the evolution of our product experiences, ensuring users remain at the heart of all decisions, and continually improving the quality of what we make. Additionally, Managers look after the people on the team, through mentorship, professional development, and career-building. You will leverage prior leadership and management experience, to foster positive and impactive relationships to bring non-designers into the work, and uphold the values and quality standards in a stakeholder-rich environment.
Job Responsibilities
  • Realize success through building impactful product design teams
  • In partnership with Principal Designers, lead the creative efforts for your team, across multiple parallel workstreams, establishing a vision for where the work is headed, and establishing a shared understanding of quality
  • Bring a user-centered design perspective to discussions around product vision, roadmap, and requirements with Product-level leadership
  • Connect the work of the team to the specific business needs, the competitive landscape, and navigating JPMC to situate teams for success
  • Participate in critique and other review, ensuring team output meets quality standards
  • Prepare designers for presenting their work to others
  • Present the team's work to cross-functional MDs and other executives
  • Plan and structure work across multiple design/product teams
  • Support creation of new product and business strategy at the intersection of user needs and business goals
  • Manage a team of Product Designers and Content Designers, including 1:1s, professional development, performance reviews, etc.
  • Actively recruit and hire Product Designers, and support the recruiting of researchers and content designers
  • Keep designers (and cross-functional peers) focused on product and business objectives, so they're designing for customer impact
  • Ensure the team maintains focus on their work, avoiding disruption and distraction

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
  • Prior experience leading design teams
  • Passionate advocate of putting our users at the heart of the work
  • Success at bringing a range of people into the research and design process, including cross-functional partners (product managers, engineers, stakeholders from the business)
  • Experience leading a program of work through full product development cycles in discovery, concepting, prototypes, specifications, and enablement
  • Strength in Interaction Design, Visual/User Interface (UI) Design, and Information Architecture
  • Proficiency in adjacent skills such as User Research, User Experience (UX) Writing, Prototyping, and Service Design
  • Excellent communication, presentation and collaboration skills; comfort articulating the rationale behind decisions not only to their team, but executive leaders as well
  • Strong facilitation skills and experience employing a variety of methods and techniques to run complex design-led workshops
  • Able to show how their understanding of technical constraints and opportunities informed design solutions; familiar with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Advocate for Accessibility Guidelines and Inclusive Design practices
  • Orderly and organized, keeping themselves and their teams on task and on time
  • Comfortable with structuring and planning design work in cross-functional contexts
