User Interface Designer (UX/UI)
Job Description
Introduction:
Toshiba GCS is looking for a User Interface Designer to helm the design of some of our point-of-sale and retail software solutions. This role will focus on designing modern software utilizing the latest UX methodologies and best practices. They will be part of a multidisciplinary UX team, and work closely with product owners, developers, and cross-functional teams. They will produce creative solutions for complex workflows dealing with commerce and retail. This candidate will not only have extensive understanding of UX methodologies, but they will be able to produce finished designs and have a high degree of visual design talent.
Toshiba GCS wants a thoughtful, inherently collaborative, and detail-focused designer that thrives on complexity and can take ownership of a project to provide design guidance and direction with innovative solutions that go beyond simple business requirements. A product design portfolio review will be required and must include sketches, ideation process, and final work.
Responsibilities:
- Use the UX process to ideate and iterate a project's design from concept to implementation
- Create UX assets of the appropriate fidelity to describe the intended experience, such as sketches, wireframes, prototypes, and mockups
- Skin wireframes with consistent elements, while exploring multiple variations of treatments
- Apply a wide variety of visual design principles for optimal UI experiences
- Create specifications and/or style sheets to be used by other designers and developers
- Work closely and collaboratively with the UX team, development teams, and business leads
- Present and defend design decisions with cross-functional teams in order to gain buy-in
- Help design and implement design standards, interaction frameworks, and a patterns library
- Incorporate user research, personas, and user validation testing into design decisions
- Show deep knowledge of the trends in UI best practices
Required Skills:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Visual Communication, or any design-related field
- 3+ years as a User Experience Designer, UI Designer, Interaction Designer, or related field
- High level of skill in graphic design, with an eye for typography, a professional modern style, and a pixel-level attention to detail
- Comfortable with design facilitation, collaboration, and heuristic evaluation
- Excellent communication and presentation skills - both in creating presentation materials and in-person
- Capable of understanding complex user workflows, large dataset visualizations, and incorporating usability research into design decisions
- Ability to prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks with minimal supervision
- Extensive background in developing both enterprise and consumer application experiences
- Experience with Agile methodologies
- Understanding of Atomic Design concepts
- Familiarity with creating a UI design system, style guides, and design pattern libraries
- Ability to give and receive feedback gracefully
- Proactive and willingness to learn
- Comfortable in creating and organization design documentation
